This paper examines the life and the Neo-confucianism features of myeon-woo(1846~1919), which was selected as representative from 137 Paris Chapter Incident right after the March 1 Movement of 1919, also looked at how his Neo-confucianism world view is connected to the theoretical basis of the anti-Japanese movement. At that time, Confucian scholars recognized their real world based on the cosmology and the theory of personality, furthermore the category seeks solutions to the challenges of the times question. Their theory of the situation, such as politics, economy, and society, is based on the Neo-confucianism world view, and the way they real respond is not deviating from it. Myeon-woo is aware of the reality in this Neo-confucianism world view and is looking for a solution. Therefore, he aims to promote juli and reject juki for the rest of his life. The rationale for the real world response, such as the Paris Chapter Incident, is based on simjeukli of his juli world view, this leads to the theoretical basis of the real perception and response method with the chaos of the late Joseon Dynasty

본 논문은 1919년 3⋅1운동 직후 137인의 파리장서에서 대표로 추대 된 俛宇(郭鍾錫, 1846~1919)의 삶과 성리학적 특징을 고찰하고, 아울러 그의 성리학적 세계관이 항일운동의 이론적 기반으로 어떻게 연결되는 지 살펴본 것이다. 당시 유학자들은 성리학의 우주론과 인성론에 근거하여 자신들의 현 실세계를 인식하고, 나아가 그 범주로써 그 시대과제의 해결방안을 모 색한다. 그들의 출처관을 비롯한 정치⋅경제⋅사회 등의 현실인식은 모 두 성리학적 세계관에 토대를 두고 있다고 하겠으며, 현실대응의 방식 도 거기에서 벗어나는 것이 아니다. 면우도 이러한 성리학적 세계관 속 에서 현실을 인식하고 그 해결방안을 모색하니, 이에 평생토록 主理를 선양하고 主氣를 배척하는 것을 자신의 학문적 목표로 삼는다. 이로써 당시 파리장서사건과 같은 현실대응의 이론적 근거는 그의 주리적 세계 관에 기반한 心卽理에 토대를 두고 있으며, 이러한 心卽理는 그대로 한 말이라는 격변기의 현실인식과 대응방법의 이론적 근거로 이어진다.
