The paper examines the construction of the Paris Massage monument and the role of the Yoodo Society in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the March 1 Independence Movement in 2019. As it is noted, the March 1 Independence Movement is a very big event in our national history. At this time, who had been repressed under the Japanese occupation was released Koreans voluntarily invalidation of the Korea-Japan annexation treaty in protest against the Japanese rule and the declining Joseon dynasty.Independent state declared by the Movement that the independence movement after this became an instrument. However, the leading figure in the Declaration of Independence was Cheondoist, Buddhist, and Christian, and Confucianism was unable to participate. The situation, however, shocked those who were at the leadership level of Yurim at the time, in the absence of Confucianism. Some meaningful forests were already greatly encouraged by the Declaration of Independence, which led to a major turning point for the independence movement in Korea, and there was a need to promote the legitimacy of the independence of Joseon to the international community. It was the ‘Paris Massage’ that sent a lengthy petition to the Paris Peace Conference. Until now, however, the Paris Massage Movement had not received much attention in the history of our independence movement until 1970. Therefore, the whole story of the Paris Massage Movement and the construction of the Paris Massage monument and the role of the Yoodo Society were discussed in depth in this paper.

이 논문은 2019년 3·1 독립운동 100주년을 기념해 파리장서비의 건립 경위와 유도회의 역할에 대해 고찰한 글이다. 주지하다시피 3·1 독립운동은 우리 민족사에 있어 매우 큰 사건이다. 이때 발표된 <독립선언서>은 일제 강점기에 억눌려 지내던 조선인들 이 자발적으로 일제의 지배에 항거해 한일병합조약의 무효와 조선이 자주국임을 선언한 만세운동으로 이 이후 독립운동이 본격화 된 계기 가 되었다. 그러나 <독립선언서>를 주도한 인물이 천도교⋅불교⋅기독교로 이 에 유교는 참여하지 못했다. 그 사정이야 어떻든 유교가 빠졌다는 데 있 어 당시 유림의 지도급에 있었던 인사들에게 적잖은 충격을 주었다고 하겠다. 이에 몇몇 뜻있는 유림이 모여 이미 <독립선언서>로 인해 민심이 크 게 고무되어 국내적으로 독립운동의 큰 전기가 마련되었다고 보고, 조 선 독립의 정당성을 국제 사회에 알려 여론을 환기시킬 필요성이 있다 고 보았다. 이에 1,424자로 된 장문의 탄원서를 파리강화회의에 보낸 것 이 <파리장서>이다. 그러나 그동안 이 파리장서운동은 1970년까지 우리 독립운동사에 있 어 크게 주목받지 못했다. 이에 사단법인 유도회가 주축이 되어 파리장 운동을 부각시킨 것이 ‘파리장서비건립’ 운동이다. 따라서 이 논문에서 는 파리장서 운동의 전말과 팔장서비 건립 경위와 유도회의 역할에 대 해 심도 있게 고찰하였다.
