초록

Consumer education can be categorized by subject (infant, child, adolescent, adult, elderly, vulnerable class), type (home, in school, out of school), and subject (economic education, environmental education, ethics education, safety education, etc.). Because of this extensive diversity, measuring of consumer education has been fragmented, and it is difficult to compare the impact of consumer education using different scales and methods. Therefore, this study aims at comprehensive and systematic evaluation of consumer education data through meta-analysis. According to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines, 98 studies were used to analyze consumer education research trends. Among these, 121 cases were extracted from 18 studies and used for the final meta-analysis. As a result of meta-analysis to measure the impact of consumer education, the overall average effect size was 0.38, slightly over the middle. As a result of analyzing the effect size of knowledge, attitude, and skill, which are sub-variables of consumer competency, it showed that the impact was in order of knowledge (0.33), skill (0.30), and attitude (0.22). This means that current consumer education has a moderate impact on knowledge transfer and behavioral change. In the future, a variety of educational methods should be implemented, focusing on actual behavior change through education rather than knowledge-oriented education. The impact of education on attitudes showed that attitudes once formed were difficult to change. As a result of testing for the average effect size by subjects of consumer education, environmental education (0.56), ethics education (0.39), financial education (0.29), and comprehensive consumer education (0.19) were found. Meta-ANOVA showed a statistically significant difference (Q = 34.03, df = 3, p < 0.0001). It can be understood that subdividing the subject of consumer education into environmental education, ethics education, and financial education is effective in terms of strengthening consumer competency. This study measured the impact on consumer education and verified the effectiveness of consumer education by subject and class. This is important because it has established ground level to make direction to increase meaningful consumer education.
