The purpose of this study considers the 4 Major Rivers Maintenance Project based on ‘Technology’ and ‘Dwelling’ from Martin Heidegger’s theory. There are four spatial types on the Project for ecosystem restoration that are the construction for flood control, water purification area, wildlife habitats and waterfront for cultural activities. Ecological statuses of man are the devastator, restorer, and bystander. However, the point of Heidegger’s view was that the ecological status of man may be granted only the status as orderer of standing-reserve. It gives commands to Nature incessantly. Man in the midst of objectlessness is nothing but the orderer of standing-reserve. Modern technology is the highest stage of misrepresentation of the essence of human being. Heidegger’s theory was clearly that technology carries us outward from ourselves and drives man to dwell unpoetically. But he believed that we are capable of dwelling poetically on the earth by acquiring the measure with ‘Kindness’. His theory has great implications for us, having to concern about ecological restoration within the environmental aesthetic, because he considered man’s dwelling as the essential goodness of human nature beyond the sudden sight of beauty.

이 논문은 하이데거의 ‘기술’과 ‘거주함’을 중심으로 4대강 생태복원 공간 내 인간의 위상에 대해 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 4대강 살 리기 사업의 생태복원 공간은 크게 치수공간, 정수공간, 서식공간, 친 수공간으로 나눌 수 있다. 이상의 공간들에서 인간은 자연 훼손자, 복 원자, 관람자로 자리매김한다. 하이데거의 ‘기술’의 관점에서 볼 때 자 연의 훼손과 복원, 관람은 모두 자연을 대상화할 우려가 있다. 결과적 으로 4대강 생태복원 공간 내 인간은 기술의 역운 속에서 자연이라는 부품에게 끊임없이 무언가를 요구하는 ‘주문 요청자’로서 위치하게 된 다. 하이데거는 대지 위에서 ‘시적 거주함’으로서 기술의 역운에 대한 극복이 가능해진다고 본다. 시 지음은 척도의 획득이고 척도는 호의를 요구한다. 하이데거가 말하는 시적인 것의 본질은 호의라는 윤리적인 행위를 요구한다는 점에서 예술에서 말하는 ‘미’를 넘어 ‘선’에 다다른 다. 넓은 의미에서 경관미학으로서의 환경미학은 미와 선, 즉 미학과 윤리학의 접점을 모색하는 학문이다. 이러한 점에서 하이데거의 ‘시적 거주함’은 환경미학, 나아가서는 시각적 조형미에 치중하는 경향이 있 는 4대강 미관 계획에도 시사하는 바가 크다고 하겠다.
