How to Increase Foreign visitors’ Understanding and the Publicness of Translated Ceramic Art Terms in the Museum
초록
영어
This paper aimed to measure the degree of foreign visitors’ understanding in order to examine the publicness of translated terms in the museum, and encourage museums to use ease-to-understanding translated terms. The results showed that foreigners, who participated in this study, understood only 15.5% of translated ceramic terms which actually used in the Museum. However, when presenting ease-to-understanding translated terms, which I discretionally generated based on the formation requirements of public and technical terms, to foreigners, the degree of their understanding dramatically increased to 56.59%. This findings indicated that when translating ceramic terms, six requirements(① no transliteration, ② using English, ③ building translation strategy for expressing cultural terms, ④ using high-frequency vocabulary, ⑤ not using difficult technical terms, ⑥ consistent translation) should be met for enhancing the publicness.
