The purpose of this paper is to examine the possibility for the utilization of culture contents from the Bongmyung paintings (paintings drawn for a royal command of King) of Mt. Geumgang. It focuses on the humanistic values of picturesque records of two painters, Kim Hong-do and Kim Eung-hwan who traveled around nine counties and Mt. Geumgang in Kanwon Province fulfilling King Jeongjo’s order. Mt. Geumgang has been known as the place of thought and one of the origins of culture and art in the hearts and minds of Koreans. It has provided Koreans with rich cultural heritage, scenic beauties, and unique opportunities for pilgrimage and sightseeing. A role of a trail is not just for people or cars to be through, but it also tells us various traces and stories of life. Those traces and stories on the trails have remained as unprocessed humanistic resources for future use. When materialized as cultural resources, they can serve as major sources for culture contents in local areas. Thus, this paper attempts to show the entire journey of the two painters by incorporating their Bongmyung paintings that are still in existence. The historicity in the trails of the painters’ journey for Bongmyung provides its value as culture contents for today through each trail as a form. Given Mt. Geumgang emerged as a new symbol of contemporary culture and history in a new era of peace and reconciliation on the Korean Peninsula, there is a need to develop more creative ways for people to understand Mt. Geumgang. This paper suggests that it is ‘now’ to unearth new valuable cultural resources for travelers to learn about the mountain. One way to do so is through the examination of the trails in Kim Hong-do and Kim Eung-hwan’s journey through Gangwon Province, as much as we gained our knowledge on the art and culture in 19th century through the painters’ Bongmyung paintings.

이 논문은 김홍도와 김응환이 정조의 명에 의해 그려진 영동 9군 및 금강산 사경의 결과물을 인문자원으로 인식하고, 봉명사경도를 소재로 금강산 콘텐츠의 활용 가능성을 살펴보는 데 목적이 있다. 금강산은 한민족의 역사ㆍ문화가 서려있는 사고의 공간이자 문화예술의 발원지이다. 금강산은 풍부한 문화유산과 수려한 경치로 인해 오랜 과거로부터 독특한 순례와 유람을 위한 장소가 되어 왔다. 길은 단순히 사람이나 차가 다니는 공간이 아니라 다양한 역사ㆍ문화적 의미를 지닌 공간이어서 다양한 삶의 흔적과 산재된 이야기가 있다. 이것은 현재와 미래에 가공되지 않은 인문자원이며, 이런 길들이 모이고, 연계되어 고유한 문화적 가치의 확산으로 구현될 때 지역에서 활용 가능한 건강한 콘텐츠 소재의 발아가 시작된다. 이 논문은 김홍도와 김응환 봉명사경과 관련된 현존하는 작품을 취합하여 전체여정을 시각적으로 구현하였다. 전체여정에 포함된 길은 지역과 지역 간 연결의 중심매개체이다. 봉명사경을 위해 지나간 길이 보유하고 있는 ‘역사성’을 길이라는 ‘형식’을 통해 콘텐츠 활용가치 측면에서 구현할 수 있는 소재를 제공하였다. 금강산은 분명 현시대의 문화를 대변하고 있는 상징물이다. 남ㆍ북 평화시대를 맞이하여 금강산으로 향하는 여정이 보다 풍부해질 수 있도록 창조적인 방안을 모색해야 한다. 우리가 김홍도와 김응환의 봉명사경도를 보며 그 당시의 문화예술을 평가하듯, 우리의 후손들 역시 ‘바로 지금’의 금강산 콘텐츠를 평가하게 될 것이다. 지금은 우리가 이들에게 내놓을 수 있을 금강산 콘텐츠 활용에 대한 진지한 고민이 필요하다.
