In this paper, I concentrate on studying written by Yi Gyubo(李奎報) from a new angle. I ponder on why Yi Gyubo write and take notice of the Gosa(故事) of ‘Western Han(前漢) king Kojo(高祖) and Later Han(後漢) king Kwangmuje(光武帝)’ in an ending part of the main poetry to solve this problem. I clarify that these Gosa are related with the ‘a inside creative motivation’ of author. First, can divide into three parts, that is to say, ‘beginning part, main part and ending part’. Ending part repeats contents of the preface[幷序] and beginning part in order again. And the beginning and ending part shows the thought and comment of author directly. I would regard those as ‘a surface creative motivation’. I indicate two meanings as a surface creative motivation. : 1) to represent the sanctity of King Dongmyeong(東明王) more effectively, 2) to present the morals of later ruler. Next, I investigate why Yi Gyubo selects king Kojo and Kwangmuje as ‘founder’ in ending part and why author puts up king Kojo as his mysterious signs and nominates Kwangmuje as ‘a removal of pretender, Huang Kun(黃巾)’. Two kings’ stories are narrated by twelve lines in this poetry. King Kojo’s story shows that he removes Dragon that obstructs people’s traffic, and Kwangmuje’s story shows achievements that he removes some pretenders who usurp the throne and disturb the country. From this, maybe Yi Gyubo are impressed any delightfulness and vicarious pleasure. Following, I investigate author’s some poems. In his poems he laments his misfortune that cannot enter the government after Gwageo(科擧) pass for 10 years. And author thinks those days as the age of decadence. Maybe he composes and shows some his feelings about a government office under the rule of the military, king Myeong Jong(明宗), political dissatisfactions indirectly. Because I think that an ending part of this poetry involves the ‘a inside creative motivation’ of author. Finally, Yi Gyubo reveals some respond consciousness about a government office under the rule of the military and especially the death of king Myeong Jong through ‘the Gosa of king Kojo and Kwangmuje’ in an ending part of the main poetry. In historical materials of Koryeo(高麗), all people hate king’s murderer. Similarly Yi Gyubo are willing to do so. So he does hope that murderer Yi eumin(李義旼) are removed. Because Yi eumin kills king Myeong Jong. Yi Gyubo regards military rulers, especially Yi eumin as ‘pretender’. Those pretenders must be killed someone as like the story of king Kwangmuje about that time. He does compose for the sake of revealing some respond consciousness about a removal of pretender, Yi eumin. That is a inside creative motivation of author.

필자는 <동명왕편> 창작 동기에 관한 선학들의 견해를 수용하되 본시의 결미부에서 언급된 ‘전한의 고조’와 ‘후한의 광무제 고사’를 새로이 주목하고, 이것이 곧 작가가 내세우고자 했던 또 다른 측면의 숨겨진 ‘이면적 창작 동기’와 연관되었음을 밝히려고 하였다. 먼저, 이 작품의 본시를 ‘서두부, 본문부, 결미부’로 나누어 각 구성부분의 내용을 재정리하였으며, 결미부가 병서·서두부의 내용을 순차적으로 거듭 반복하고 있음을 밝혔다. 그리고 서두·결미부는 병서와 함께 ‘작가의 소감과 논평’이 직접 드러나서 작가의 의견과 주장이 강하게 제시되고 있었다. 필자는 이를 ‘표면적 창작 동기’라 하고, 두 가지를 제시하였다. 곧 첫째 병서에 나오는 것으로 ‘동명왕 이야기를 지어서 성인지도임을 널리 알리고자 함’, 둘째 결미부에 나오는 것으로 ‘후대의 통치자가 가져야 할 치자의 윤리를 제시하기 위함’이 그것이다. 다음으로, 결미부에서 ‘고조·세조’를 ‘초창군’으로 선택하고, 그 가운데 고조의 ‘흥기의 기이한 조짐’과 세조의 ‘황건 가짜 소탕’을 내세운 이유를 검토하였다. 모두 12구의 짧은 분량인데, 한 고조 유방이 밤중에 사람의 통행을 가로막는 뱀을 퇴치하고, 후한 세조 유수가 한나라를 찬탈한 왕망, 그리고 적미군(경시제 포함) 등을 소탕한다는 내용을 보여준다. 필자는 이규보가 고조에게서 ‘백성들의 불편함을 제거하는 행적’을, 세조에게는 ‘왕위를 찬탈하여 나라를 혼란에 빠뜨린, 가짜들을 소탕하는 행적’을 제시함으로써 어떤 통쾌함이나 대리만족을 느꼈을 것으로 판단했다. 다음으로, 주로 이규보의 시 작품을 검토하였는데, 급제 후 10년간 벼슬 없이 지냄을 한탄하고 자신의 신세가 곤궁함을 토로하면서, 당대를 말세로 보았음을 확인하였다. 필자는 작가가 세상사 온갖 잘못된 형편, 무신집권층과 왕 등 위정자에 대한 불만 등을 시 곧 <동명왕편>으로 에둘러 표현했을 것이며, 이러한 숨겨진 ‘이면적 창작 동기’가 말미부에 담겨 있다고 했다. 본시 결미부에서 ‘고조 · 세조’를 인용한 것은 무신정권에 대한 작가의 대응의식을 반영하며, 특히 무신란으로 폐위된 ‘의종 그리고 그의 죽음’의 문제와 관련된다. 『고려사』, 『고려사절요』등의 사료를 통하여 볼 때, 집권 무신들, 문신들 그리고 일반백성들도 ‘국왕의 시해’를 결코 용납하지 않고 있었다. 이러한 인식은 이규보도 똑같이 가졌을 것이고, 나아가 국왕을 시해한 이의민이 제거되기를 바랐을 것이다. 무인집권자들 특히 이의민은 작가에게 왕권과 상관없는 ‘가짜’이고, 그런 ‘가짜’는 ‘후한 세조 광무제의 사적’에서 보았듯이, 고려 당대에도 누군가 소탕해야 마땅하다. 이규보는 ‘무신집권자 가짜’를 소탕하기를 은근히 원하였고, 그런 심정을 피력하기 위해 <동명왕편>을 창작했을 것이다.
