This paper is an attempt to newly discover the principle of family expansion, which is not fully explained by the 20th century nuclear family paradigm. Here the adjective "the familial" is used as a methodological concept that is not reduced to the non-united and objectified term, "The Family". Until now, in the discourse of modern nuclear families, the principle of family expansion has been discussed in terms of “intimacy” without objections. However, not all families are intimate, and since intimate relationships inherent in 'mental communicability' modeled after the Western Christian ideal, there is a risk of distortion in the abstract solidarity that excludes the qualitative differences that accompany the body. (Section 2. Intimacy as a Principle of Family Restructuring) In tracking the generative origin of the space of the family, the family refers to a friendly relationship that is not explained solely by intimate feelings and emotional bonds, such as pain, illness, impulsiveness, instinct, etc. It seems to be linked to the 'bodily mediated communality' of humans with inherent independence and fragility. When it is understood not as a formation but as a relationship akin to an attitude and an embodied habit, it is constantly created and inherently family-like spanning across both time and place. The flexible principle can thus be explained (as a family of four sections that extend the principles of attitude; that is the dialectic between similarity and difference.)

이 글은 최근 급변하는 한국사회의 가족현실을 20세기 핵가족 패러다임으로 해명하 는 데 한계가 있다는 문제의식으로부터 가족 확장의 원리를 새롭게 탐색하려는 시도다. 여기서 나는 명사화되고 사물화된 ‘가족(The Family)’으로 환원되지 않는 형용사 ‘가족 적인 것’(the familial)을 방법적 개념으로 사용한다. 지금까지 근대 핵가족 담론에서 가족 의 확장원리는 별다른 이의제기 없이 친밀성 개념을 중심으로 논의되어왔다. 하지만 모 든 가족이 친밀한 것은 아니며, 친밀한 관계는 자칫 관계를 제약하는 정치경제적 조건과 신체에 수반된 질적 차이를 추상화시키는 낭만적 연대에 머물 수 있다.(2절. 가족 재구조 화 원리로서 친밀성) 가족이라는 공간의 발생적 연원을 추적해볼 때 가족적인 것은 친밀 한 감정과 정서적 유대로만 설명되지 않는 신체매개적 공동체성을 지시하는데, 그것은 고통, 질병, 충동, 동물성 등 근원적 부자유와 취약함을 지닌 인간 공통의 어두운 면과 밀 접하게 연관된 것으로 보인다.(3절. 가족적인 것: 신체매개적 공동체성) 이때 신체매개적 공동체성을 혈연이나 친족과 같은 자연발생적 원형이 아닌, 자연사적·사회문화적으로 매개된 태도이자 체현된 습관으로 이해할 때, 시대와 장소를 초월해서 가족적인 것을 끊 임없이 생성·변화케 하는 유동적 원리가 설명될 수 있다.(4절. 태도로서 가족확장원리 : 유사성과 차이성의 변증법)
