This study analyzed 84 social studies items from elementary teacher employment examination. Primary findings from the analysis are as following. First, the share of social studies items is on the rise. Second, the share of contents-based items is on the rise against the educationbased items. Third, multiple-choice items experienced high fluctuation, while short-answered items are on the decrease, and closed and fill-out items are on the rise. Based on the research findings, followings are suggested. First, the share of social studies items need to be increased sustainedly. Second, long-term researches regarding evaluation area need to be conducted. Third, items that closely correspond to short-answered question need to be developed. Last, qualitative item analysis need to be conducted for the betterment of social studies items.

본 연구는 2001학년도부터 2019학년도까지 출제된 초등임용시험 사회과 84개 문항에 대한 다면적인 분석을 통해 출제 경향의 종합적인 이해를 시도하였다. 주요한 출제 경향 및 문항 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 초등임용시험에서 사회과 문항이 차지하는 출제 비중이 지속적으로 증가하였다. 둘째, 초등임용시험에 서 교과내용학의 출제 비중이 지속적으로 증가하였다. 셋째, 시기별로 선택형 문항의 부침이 눈에 띄게 나타 났으며, 서술형은 감소 추세에, 완결형 및 단답형은 증가 추세에 있었다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 초등임용시험 및 후속 연구에 대해 다음과 같은 측면이 제안되었다. 첫째, 초등교육 및 초등교원양성에서 차지하는 사회과 의 중요성을 고려할 때, 초등임용시험에서 사회과의 비중은 지속적으로 증가될 필요가 있다. 둘째, 평가영역 및 평가요소에 대한 학교 현장과 학계의 장기적인 연구가 필요하다. 셋째, 서술형 문항의 취지에 부합할 수 있 는 문항 개발이 필요하다. 마지막으로, 초등임용시험 개별 문항에 대한 전문적인 분석을 통해 문항의 질이 지 속적으로 개선되어 나갈 필요가 있다.
