The first purpose of this study was to investigate the church-run neighborhood orchestra and its churches, and the second purpose was to investigate the purpose of the church's initiation and the achievements so far. In particular, it was intended to find out whether it helps in evangelism. The scope of the study was limited to the ‘Our Neighborhood Orchestra,’ which was created and operated by the church with the help of the Music Home Company. 58 churches of this study were distributed in various regions. Small and medium-sized cities were the most, at 27.6%. And most of them were small churches. Three of the four churches(72.4%) had fewer than 200 members. The average number of orchestra members was 31.6. The average proportion of non-Christians among the members was 30.1%. Among the staff in charge of the orchestra, the pastor's wife was the most common at 37.9%. The largest number(41.4%) of respondents cited the biggest purpose of the orchestra as the “communication and exchange with the local people by lowering the threshold of the church,” followed by “evangelism” with 31.0%. Three out of four(75.8%) answered that the purpose of creating the orchestra was achieved. And 81.1% said the 'Our Neighborhood Orchestra' program was helpful for the evangelism. However, only 38.3% of them said that instrument lessons and orchestra ensemble alone would help evangelism. Almost all(89.7%) of the churches said they had some difficulties in running the orchestra. 42.3% of the respondents said that the most difficult thing was 'member management,' while 30.8% said 'member recruitment.' And 25.9% of the respondents cited 'the enthusiasm of the members and the mutual encouragement of members' as the most important point for the orchestra to operate well, and the other 25.9% cited 'continuous public relations and recruitment.' 79.3% of all respondents said they plan to continue to operate the orchestra. While the findings are encouraging in many ways, it should be noted that not all orchestras are successful. The clear philosophy, thorough preparation, and firm will of the church and the pastor are important. In addition, it is advisable not to use orchestras as a means of evangelism and church growth, but to act in the attitude of loving neighbors and to operate them in terms of community service.
