The study focuses on the recent growth of YouTube journalism. I would like to define the characteristics of YouTube journalism and discuss the implications of the diagnosis of the problematic aspects of YouTube journalism and the evolution of the broadcasting journalism ecosystem. The purpose of this paper is to explore whether YouTube journalism can be defined as journalism, the characteristics and types of YouTube journalism, whether it can contribute to fostering citizenship with surveillance and criticism of power, and what functions YouTube performs as a public sphere. The activation of YouTube journalism has a side that revitalizes the public sphere through communication of various opinions, and there is criticism that it strengthens political polarization and confirmation bias and deepens social conflict. Therefore, I would like to examine the influence and pros and cons of YouTube journalism and discuss the meaning and alternatives.

이 연구는 최근 성장세를 보이고 있는 유튜브 저널리즘 현상에 주목하여 유튜브 저 널리즘의 특성을 정의하고 유튜브 저널리즘의 문제적 측면에 대한 진단과 그로 인해 야 기되는 방송저널리즘 생태계의 진화가 갖는 의미를 논하고자 한다. 과연 유튜브 저널리 즘을 저널리즘으로 규정할 수 있을지, 유튜브 저널리즘의 특징과 유형은 어떠한지, 권 력에 대한 감시와 비판의식을 갖춘 시민의식을 육성하는데 과연 기여할 수 있을지, 유 튜브가 사회적 공론장으로서 어떠한 기능을 수행하는지에 대해 탐색적으로 고찰 하고 자 하는데 이 논문의 목적이 있다. 유튜브 저널리즘의 활성화는 다양한 의견의 소통을 통해 공론의 장을 활성화시키는 측면도 있으며 정치적 양극화와 확증편향을 강화하고, 사회갈등을 심화시킨다는 비판론 도 있다. 따라서 유튜브 저널리즘의 영향력과 장단점을 진단해보고 더불어 그 의미와 대안에 대한 논의를 시도해보고자 한다.
