A Study on Employees' Health Status and Quality of Life by Using SF-12 - A Case Study of Employees in Large-Scale Workplaces in Daejeon and Chungcheong Province -

Purpose : This paper reports the findings of a descriptive research that measured health status of workers, and examined the determinants of the quality of life. Methods : We surveyed 575 people from 45 largesized company with 300 or more employees in Daejeon City and Chungcheong-do, from January 2010 to March 2010. Results : The data of SF-12 said the mean score of respondents’ health status was 75.5±4.59 points. To identify the factors affecting the quality of life, we made two models using multiple regression analysis. Model I found a higher life satisfaction in the respondents with annual income over 40,000,000 won, office-based job, less working hours, younger age, and higher SF-12 total score. The Model Ⅱ illustrated the employees with annual income of over 40,000,000 won, office-based job, less working hours, younger age, and higher score in MCS presented higher score in SWLS. Conclusion : The study confirmed that the health level of workers has a significant influence on the quality of life of workers. Improving workers’ health level, therefore, is very important for improving their quality of life. Especially, since the mental health index of workers has a substantial effect on the quality of life, taking an active way to reduce the workers' stress and improve their mental health is necessary.
