As can be confirmed by the idea of isida baigan, diligence, frugality and honesty are considered the essences of the Japanese behavior. Western societies regard these norms as spirits that support capitalism, but in Japan they are called customary virtue and as norms that support Japanese spirit of capitalism.. In fact, studies of post-war Japan thoughts focused on such Japanese thought styles.. Some argued that such Japanese though style in the form of customary virtue appeared in the mid and late period of the modern times is the driving force of Japanese modernization. During the post-war period of high economic growth in Japan, the international community also presented research results that pay attention to the traditional Japanese behavior. This study focuses on the ideas of Ninomiya as a practical peasant thinker, not as a peasant scholar, and how the characteristics and ideas of houtoku, which was advocated by Nihomiya, penetrated into the consciousness of peasants leading the rural revival movement. This paper seeks to examine how Ninomiya's thoughts are passed down in the field of the Japanese intellectural history.

이시다 바이간의 심학사상에서 언급한 바 있듯이 일본인의 행동양식으로서 주목할 수 있 는 것이 바로 근면, 검약, 정직이다. 서구사회에서는 이러한 규범을 자본주의를 지탱하는 정 신으로 간주하고 있지만, 일본에서도 통속도덕이라 부르며 일본적 자본주의 정신을 지탱하 는 규범으로 간주하고 있다. 실제 전후일본의 사상사연구는 이러한 일본인의 사유양식 분석 에 주목했다. 근세중･후기부터 구체적인 형태로 나타나기 시작한 일본인의 통속도덕적 사유 양식을 저변에서부터 형성된 일본근대화의 원동력으로 평가하기도 하고, 전후부흥기와 고도 경제성장기에는 국제사회도 전통적인 일본인의 행동양식으로 주목하는 연구성과를 제시했 다. 실제 근세중후기 이후 일본의 농촌부흥운동의 사례를 보면 그 실체를 구체적으로 확인 할 수 있다. 이에 본고에서는 농학자가 아닌 실천적 농민사상가로서 니노미야의 사상을 주 목하여, 니노미야가 주창한 보덕사상의 특성과, 그 사상이 농촌부흥운동을 주도하는 사상으 로 어떻게 농민들의 의식 속에 침투하였는지, 그리고 그의 사상이 일본인의 정신사의 영역 에서 어떠한 형태로 계승되고 있는지 등을 분석하고자 한다.
