This study conducts spatial and educational functions of 'Cola tech' as elderly leisure space. First of all, Cola tech promotes continual learning as location for social interaction and intercommunion. The stage in Cola tech has the structure reflected physical features for aged people so that they can interact with others there and especially a lounge or restaurant is used for the place to start to meet people and continue their relationship. Second, there are regular patterns to progression of rituals for the elderly in Cola tech according to Gennep's The Rites of Passage: separation, liminality, and reintegration. In separation phase, the old realize another ego and try to give vent to their psychology and emotions for novel interaction by separating from daily life and experiencing new world. Third, during the ritual process in Cola tech the old have an experience about informal learning. The aged constantly perform various types of learning in order to adapt the place which they choose and interact with others. Cola tech regarded as only commercial area is socially needed to make an effort to activate in terms of public dimension. We need to come up with measures to legalize Cola tech as the place where the aged experience positive physical change and resolve their loneliness. Even though Cola tech has shown some negative viewpoints socially, it needs more plans to vitalize positive aspects of Cola tech by performing the study on subculture and public culture of the elderly.

본 연구의 목적은 매년 급속하게 늘어나고 있는 노인들의 수에 비해 그들의 여가공간이 부족함을 인식하는 것에서 출발하였다. 이러한 여가공간과 프로그램 부재의 틈에서 노인들에게 각광받고 있는 여가공간 중의 하나인 ‘콜라텍’ 이 노인들을 위한 공간으로써 노인들의 요 구와 교육적 측면을 얼마만큼 반영하고 있는지를 살펴보았다. 또한 본 연구는 노인여가 공간 으로서의 ‘콜라텍’이 Simmel의 이론적 관점으로 사회적 상호공간과 친교의 개념으로 설명 하고자 한다. 친교는 자유로운 사회적 공간이며 사회화의 유희적공간으로서 아무런 조건없는 인격적 행위에 기초를 둔다. 연구 결과 ‘콜라텍’ 은 특별한 의미를 내포하고 있는 공간으 로서 연행적 학습이 이루어지고 있었고 더불어 노인들을 Turner의 의례과정을 분리, 전이, 통 합의 단계로 구분하여 연구함으로써 ‘콜라텍’ 에서의 연행적 학습에는 규칙적인 패턴이 있다는 것이 드러났다. 이는 특정한 공간에서 이루어지는 한 집단의 행위를 통한 의례과정을 보여줌으로써, 공간의 특성에 따라 한 집단의 성격과 의례행위가 달라질 수 있으며, 이를 통 한 무형식 학습 또한 다양한 형태로 달리 이루어지고 있음을 보여주고 있었다. 연구를 통해 서 우리가 쉽게 간과하고 있는 노인들의 대중문화에 대한 연구가 많지 않기 때문에 특정한 공간에서 급속하게 형성하고 있는 그들의 문화에 관심을 가지는 계기를 마련함과 동시에 노인들의 요구를 적극 반영할 수 있는 노인여가공간의 필요성이 시급함을 확인하였다.
