The purpose of the paper is to examine the characteristics of Gangwon Regional Dialect, a legacy of local culture and a language material, and to explore ways to preserve Gangwon Regional Dialect materials that reflect the historical, social and cultural characteristics of Gangwon-do Province. First of all, in Chapter 2, we looked at the characteristics of Gangwon Regional Dialect, divided it into Yeongdong dialect and Yeongseo dialect according to geographical features, and divided it into phonetic and grammatical expressions by paying attention to the phenomenon of language showing the difference between Yeongdong dialect and Yeongseo dialect. Chapter 3 suggested a plan to preserve Gangwon Regional Dialect, even though it is never quantitative or qualitative compared to other regions, but said that it is important to continuously find vocabulary materials and organize them, and secondly, because idiomatic expressions and proverbs show dialect differences, it is necessary to find systematic data on them. Third, I believe that collecting and organizing data on oral speech that has a discourse character is necessary continuously, and that a web database should be established as a methodical preservation measure for regional language data." Last but not least, I thought about the wide-open Gangwon Regional Dialect dictionary, emphasizing that various forms of dictionaries should be published.

이 논문의 목적은 지역문화의 유산이자 언어 자료인 강원방언의 특징을 살펴보고, 강원도 지역의 역사, 사회, 문화적 특성이 반영된 강원방언 자료를 보존하기 위한 방안을 모색해 보는 것이다. 먼저 2장에서는 강원방언의 특징을 살펴보았는데, 강원방언을 크게 지리적 특징에 따라 영동 방언과 영서 방언으로 나누었고, 영동 방언과 영서 방언의 차이를 보이는 언어 현상에 주목하여 음운과 문법으로 나누어 살펴보았다. 3장에서는 강원방언이 다른 지역에 비해서 결코 양적으로나 질적으로 손색이 없을지라 도 앞으로 강원방언을 보존하기 위한 방안을 제시하여 보았는데, 첫째로 어휘 자료의 지속 적인 발굴과 체계적인 정리가 중요하다 보았으며, 둘째 관용적 표현이나 속담은 방언적 차이를 보여주기 때문에 이들에 대한 체계적인 자료 발굴이 필요하다고 하였다. 셋째 최근 들어 담화적 성격을 갖는 구술발화에 대한 자료 수집과 정리가 지속적으로 필요하다고 보았으며, 지역어 자료에 대한 체계적인 보존 대책으로 웹 데이터베이스 구축이 필요하다 고 하였다. 마지막으로 다양한 형태의 사전이 출간되어야 함을 강조하면서 특히 『개방형 강원방언 사전』을 생각해 보았다.
