Yeats has remained a paradox for audience till the present primarily because of the rational critical approaches made to categorize him in the domain of literature and philosophy. The enigma that has so far encircled Yeats has resulted from the incredible variations, in which a creative genius like him could evolve in his literary domain. Effeminacy in his creativity is interesting as it opposes the “Irishness” that exudes a masculine content. Keeping in mind the idea of “colonial masculinity” which is evident in the literature of the colonized or subjugated states as well as its complex yet irreconcilable relation with the masculine nationalist zeal, the article tries to find the ‘feminine/masculine’ voice of Yeats and his dispositions in the field of literature.

문학과 철학의 영역에 포함하는 합리적 비평적 접근을 하지 못함으로써 예이츠는 현재까지 역설적 시인으로 남아있다. 예이츠를 감싸는 수수께끼는 믿을 수 없 는 만큼의 다변성에 기인하는데 이때 그의 창조적 재능이 문학영역에서 발생한다. 그의 창의성의 사내답지 못함은 흥미로운데 이것은 남성성을 보이는 아일랜드성과 대치한다. 피지배국의 문학에 두드러지고 또 남성적인 민족주의의 열정과의 복잡하거나 화합할 수 없는 관계에 두드러진 이른바 “식민주의적 남성성”의 개념을 염두에 둔, 본 논문은 문학에 있어서 예이츠의 “여성성/남성성의 목소리와 그의 특성을 찾으려고 한다.
