Traditionally, discourse markers (DMs hereafter) were treated like ‘expletives’, ‘pause-fillers’ which do not contribute to the syntax of language. Wellknown DMs to Korean learners of Spanish are ‘pues’, ‘bueno’, ‘entonce’ that appear in the sentence initial position functioning as a signal of the beginning of the conversation, topic shift, or as a link to the preceding discourse. Among many previous studies on the Spanish DMs, I analyzed the position of DMs in a sentence and its semantic function based on Martin Zorraquino & Portoles (1999), Romera (2001), Sim, Young-sik (2012) and so on. Also, I elaborated the argument based on the comparison of Spanish DMs and Korean DMs. In chapter II, the terms and definitions associated with DMs are listed, and Chapter III examines the classification of DMs according to its function. In chapter IV, I analyzed the diverse location of DMs in a sentence. In chapter V, Spanish ‘entonces’ was analyzed which appears in both written and spoken languages, and in formal and informal languages. ‘Entonces’ in the sentence initial and medial position has a function of semantic consequence, however, in sentence final position, it functioned as a sentence ender particle. Based on the result, I suggested to add a new function of DMs which can be named as ‘sentence final marker’.

전통적으로 담화표지는 ‘허사(expletives)’ 혹은 ‘pause-fillers’라고 지칭하기도 하였으 며, 이는 문장 내에서 통사적인 기능을 하지 않는다고 보았다. 스페인어 학습자들에게 잘 알려 져 있는 담화표지로는 문장 앞에 출현하여 대화의 시작을 알리는 ‘pues’, ‘bueno’, ‘entonces’ 등으로, 대화의 주제를 바꾸거나, 앞 담화와의 연결어로 사용된다. 본 연구는 스페인어 담화표 지에 대한 많은 선행연구 중에서 Martín Zorraquino & Portolés(1999), Romera(2001), 심영식 (2012) 등을 바탕으로 담화표지의 문장 내 위치와 의미적 기능을 고찰해 보았다. 또한 스페인어 담화표지와 한국어의 대응 요소 간에 비교 대조 분석을 바탕으로 논의를 전개하였다. II장에서는 담화표지와 관련된 용어와 그 정의에 대해서 다루었으며, III장에서는 기능에 따른 스페인어 담 화표지의 분류에 대해 다루었다. IV장에서는 담화표지의 문장 내 출현 위치의 다양성을 다루고, V장에서는 스페인어 담화표지 중 문어와 구어, 격식체와 비격식체에서 모두 빈번하게 출현하는 ‘entonces’의 문장 내 위치에 따른 기능과 역할에 대해 고찰해 보았다. 문두와 문중에 나타나는 ‘entonces’는 대부분의 경우에 의미적 차원에서의 결과(semantic consequence)를 표현하는 기 능을 수행하며, 문미에서의 ‘entonces’는 문장을 종결하는 기능을 수행하기도 하였다. 이점을 고려하여 결론에서 담화표지의 기능에 ‘문장종결표지(sentence final marker)’ 기능을 추가할 것을 제안하였다.
