The peace process begins on the Korean Peninsula in 2018. The unification education should be changed for permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula. This paper will suggest a paradigm shift that the unification education should become the education for peace and justice on the Korean Peninsula. The unification Education need to accept main contents of peace education. Especially it need to accept critical peace education that challenge to overcome structural and cultural violence and to practice social justice since 1970s. This paper suggest two assignments the unification education will transform to education for peace and justice on the Korean Peninsula. Firstly, the unification education should overcome cold-war recognition and understand the division of the Korean Peninsula in the context of world history in order to replace nationalistic discourses. Secondly, it need to broaden our understanding the North-Korean defectors and to make sense problems of economic disequilibrium between North and South Koreas and various social discriminations and economic inequality in the Korean Society. The finally, the unification education should change and develop to education for upbringing peaceful citizens who can know values of peace and practices politics of peace on the Korean Peninsula.

2018년 한반도에서 평화프로세스가 시작되었다. 한반도에서 영구적인 평화정착을 위해서는 통일교 육 역시 변화되어야 한다. 이글은 통일교육은 한반도에서 평화와 정의의 실현을 위한 교육으로 근본적 인 패러다임 전환이 필요함을 제안하고자 한다. 통일교육은 이를 위해서 평화교육의 논의를 수용할 필 요성이 있다. 특히 1970년대 이후 직접적인 폭력만이 아니라 구조적이고 문화적 폭력의 문제를 극복 하고 사회정의의 실현을 모색하는 비판적 평화교육의 논의를 수용할 필요성이 있다. 이 글은 통일교육 이 한반도에서 평화와 정의의 실현을 위한 평화교육이 되기 위해서는 크게 두 가지 과제를 제시하고자 한다. 첫째, 통일교육은 냉전적 인식을 극복하고 민족주의 담론을 넘어 한반도의 분단을 세계사적 맥 락에서 이해할 필요가 있다. 둘째, 사회정의의 실현을 위해서 북한이탈주민들에 대한 이해의 폭을 넓 히고 남북한 간 경제 불균형의 문제와 한국사회 내부의 다양한 사회적 차별과 불평등에 대한 문제를 이해할 필요성이 있다. 통일교육의 궁극적 목적은 한반도에서 평화의 가치를 인식하고 평화의 정치를 실현할 수 있는 평화시민을 육성하기 위한 교육으로 변화⋅발전하는 것이다.
