Artificial intelligence has a lot of influence in the art field, and its value is recognized as the works of art are sold in the auction market. There is the deep learning method which has been recently used in AlphaGo, and it is a system that mimics the process of human’s perceiving the world and recognizing the object. As AI begins to use this deep learning method, artificial intelligence wrote jazz music, completed the work of Rembrandt by learning the styles of famous artists, and produced Chun Lian(春聯). Such artificial intelligence is expected to have an influence in the field of calligraphy and painting. In this study, thus, to evaluate and diagnose such phenomena aesthetically, I investigated the unique worldview of calligraphy and painting and examined the possibility of artificial intelligence in realizing the spirit in the worldview. The aesthetic consciousness of calligraphy and painting can be examined through the Book of the Changes which tries to clarify the origin of life and the principle of life through which all things are made. The correlative relationship of yin and yang is a life principle of all things and embraces the aesthetic possibility as a principle of change and creation of art. That can be confirmed through the theory of calligraphy and painting of Kim Jeong-hui, Bu Yantu(布顔圖), and Shao Meichen(邵梅臣). They said that the vitality of the nature could be reproduced when understanding the creating principle of the universe based on ‘the Way that yin and yang successively move[一陰一陽之謂道]’. In addition, they decided that the artistic creativity, which had ‘the Spirit that they cannot assess yin and yang[陰陽不測之謂神]’, could emerge when they understand and express the principle of change which yin and yang complement and embrace each other. On the other hand, until now, the driving system of deep learning basically finds the correct answer by recognizing the small unit in the lower level and the higher unit as it goes up. In this process, the answers found by the neurons in the lower level are often inaccurate. Therefore, because of its narrow view, it causes distortions like they perceived Michelangelo’s . As such, at the current level of artificial intelligence technology, it seems to be difficult for AI to recognize the significance of ‘stroke’, which is important in calligraphy and painting, and to expect a form that is full of vitality. In addition, because the calligrapher’s or painter’s love for life is not based on a copy and a logical understanding but a stage of experience and inspiration, there is a limit to make the machine learn it. Ultimately, even if artificial intelligence can reach a level that mimics an artist’s consciousness, so that fundamental learning about East Asian art becomes possible, it still remains a question of judging whether or not it is merely the manifestation of an artist by AI.

인공지능은 최근 예술 분야에서도 많은 영향을 미치고 있으며 미술작품이 경매시장에서 판매되는 등 그 가치를 인정받고 있다. 또한 최근 알파고에서도 사용되었던 인간이 세상을 인식하고 물체를 인지하는 과정을 개념적으로 모방한 시스템인 딥러닝 학습 방식을 사용하게 되면서 인공지능은 재즈 음악을 작곡하고 유명 작가의 문체를 학습하며 렘브란트의 작품을 완성하였고 춘롄(春聯)을 제작하기도 하였다. 이와 같은 인공지능은 서화예술분야에도 그 영향을 미칠 것으로 예상되고 있으며 이에 대한 미학적 평가와 진단을 위해 서화예술만의 독특한 세계관을 규명하고 이와 같은 정신을 인공지능예술이 구현할 수 있을지에 대한 가능성을 검토해보았다. 서화예술이 가진 미의식은 생명의 근원과 이를 통해 만물이 이루어진 생명의 원리를 밝히고자 한 『주역』을 통해 살펴볼 수 있다. 여기에서 밝힌 음과 양이라는 대대적 관계는 만물의 생명 원리가 되는 것과 동시에 예술의 변화와 창조의 원리로서도 그 미학적 가능성을 품고 있다. 그리고 이를 담고 있는 김정희, 포안도, 소매신 등의 서화론을 통해 확인할 수 있다. 이들은 ‘一陰一陽之謂道’에 기반한 우주의 생성 원리를 이해해야 자연의 생동성을 재현할 수 있으며 음과 양이 서로를 이루어주고 서로를 포함하는 변화의 원리를 이해하고 표현할 수 있어야 ‘陰陽不測之謂神’을 갖춘 예술의 창조성을 드러낼 수 있다고 보았다. 한편, 현재까지 딥러닝의 구동 체계는 기본적으로 아래층에서 작은 단위를 인식하고 위로 올라갈수록 높은 단위를 인식해서 정답을 찾는 것이다. 이 과정에서 아래층 신경세포들이 찾은 답은 오답이 많고 시야가 좁기 때문에 미켈란젤로의 「천지창조」를 인식했을 때처럼 왜곡현상이 일어난다. 이처럼 현재의 인공지능기술의 수준에서는 서화예술에서 중요하게 여기는 ‘획’의 중요성을 인식하고 생명력을 불어넣는 형식을 기대하기는 어려울 것으로 보여진다. 또한 서화가의 생명에 대한 사랑은 모방과 논리적 이해에 바탕한 것이 아닌 체험과 영감의 차원이기 때문에 이를 기계에 학습시키기 위한 한계도 존재한다. 궁극적으로 인공지능이 한 작가의 의식을 흉내 내는 수준에까지 이를 수 있게 되어 동양예술에 대한 근본적인 학습이 가능해지더라도 인공지능을 통한 명서화가의 현신에 불과한 것이 아닌지에 대해 판단해야 할 문제의식을 남겨두게 될 것이다.
