The purpose of this study is to analyze the standard course of survival swimming in elementary schools announced by the Ministry of Education in 2017 and to suggest issues and improvement plans. In this study, the survival swimming curriculum is divided into the required course and elective course in order to improve the standard course for elementary schools and it suggested that the breathing is comfortable breathing, the floating is back float, and the moving is backstroke. It is necessary to develop play activities applying required courses to an elective courses and it should be developed the training programs for current and preservice teachers as well as the continuous and efficient manuals and systematic dissemination at the Ministry of Education level. It need to provide an institutional preparation that teachers can learn survival swimming and participate in its education initiatively through the program.

본 연구는 2017년도에 교육부에서 발표된 초등학교 생존수영 표준과정을 분석하고 문제점과 개선방안을 제시하 는데 목적이 있다. 초등학교 생존수영교육 표준교육과정의 개선 방향으로 생존수영 교육과정을 필수 과정과 선택과정으 로 나누고, 필수과정에서 호흡하기는 편안한 호흡을, 뜨기는 배면 뜨기를, 이동하기는 기본 배영을 제안하였다. 그리고 선택과정으로 필수과정을 응용한 놀이 활동의 개발이 필요하며, 교육부 차원에서 지속적이며 효율적인 매뉴얼 개발과 체계적인 보급과 더불어 현직교사와 직전교사들의 직무연수 프로그램을 통하여 생존수영을 익혀 교사들이 생존수영 교 육에 주도적으로 참여하여 활동할 수 있는 제도적인 마련이 필요하다.
