The purpose of this study was to analyze formative characteristics in Alphonse Mucha’s works and case of modern fashion design using art paintings based on theoretical consideration on his art pieces and also, develop innovative fashion design using his distinctive style and artistry. Literature research was carried out to discover his lifetime, backdrop and oeuvres and then, empirical study helped to classify formative characteristics in his art paintings with form, color and composition in order to analyze how his paintings were re-interpreted for the costume, especially modern fashion design and create my art pieces. The research findings are as follows. Alphonse Mucha was a pioneer leading art nouveau which is one of important art trends in the European art history and made breathtaking art pieces in art nouveau style based on his distinctive formativeness. His paintings could be classified into poster, decorative panel and Slave epic in a rough way and characterized by use of organic curves and strong decorate characteristics full of expression in general. After analyzing formative characteristics in his art pieces with form, color and composition, a total of 4 textile designs were developed and then, 8 fashion designs were made in this study, inspired by gentle curves, clear and definite lines and lettering presented in the formative characteristics; bright, cheerful colors found in the color characteristics; and asymmetrical elements in the composition characteristics as well. Such research results suggested limitless possibility of creation through art pieces by using Alphonse Mucha’s art pieces into the fashion design as the present age demands artistic, innovative and sentimental design.

본 연구는 알폰스 무하의 작품 세계에 대한 이론적 고찰을 바탕으로 그의 작품에 나타난 조형적 특성을 분석하고 회화작품을 활용한 현대 패션디자인 사례 분석을 통해 알폰스 무하의 독특한 스타일과 예술성, 그 리고 이를 활용한 독창적인 패션디자인을 개발하는데 목적을 두었다. 이에 문헌연구를 통해 알폰스 무하의 생애와 그가 활동했던 시대적 배경, 그리고 그의 작품 세계에 대하여 고찰하였으며, 실증적 연구를 통해 무하 의 회화작품에 나타난 조형적 특성을 형태, 색채, 구도 특성으로 분류하여 분석하고 현대 패션디자인에 활용 된 회화작품들이 어떻게 의상에 재해석되어 나타났는지 분석하여 이를 토대로 작품을 제작하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 알폰스 무하는 유럽 미술사에서 중요한 미술사조 중 하나였던 아르누보를 이끌었던 인 물로서 특유의 조형성을 바탕으로 아르누보 스타일의 환상적인 작품들을 제작하였는데 그의 회화작품들은 크게 포스터, 장식 패널, 슬라브 서사시로 분류할 수 있으며, 공통적으로 표현력이 풍부한 유기적인 곡선의 사용과 강한 장식적 성격을 띠는 것을 특징으로 한다. 이러한 그의 작품에 나타난 조형적 특성을 각각 형태, 색채, 구도 특성으로 분석한 결과, 본 연구에서는 형태 특성에 나타난 부드러운 곡선의 사용 및 뚜렷하고 간결한 선의 표현, 그리고 레터링의 활용과 색채 특성에 나타난 밝고 화사한 색채, 구도 특성에 나타난 비대 칭 요소들을 활용하여 텍스타일 디자인 4점을 개발하고, 이를 통해 작품 총 8개의 디자인을 개발 제작하였다. 이러한 연구결과는 예술적이고 독창적인 감성의 디자인을 요구하는 시대의 흐름에 따라 알폰스 무하의 작품 을 패션디자인에 활용하여 예술작품을 통한 무한한 창작의 가능성을 제시하였다는 점에서 연구의 의의를 가진다.
