This paper analyze the articles about the Provisional Republic of Korea Government(PRKG) appearing in Japanese media, focusing on the Asahi Shimbun and the Yomiuri Shimbun. PRKG had been consistently described as a group of torts and terrorists. It is symbolic that PRKG appeared in earnest in Japanese media after Kang Woo-gyu’s bombing incident. Articles about PRKG appeared intensively in 1919󰠏1921 and have since declined. One exception was in 1932 when Daigyaku jiken occurred by Lee Bong󰠏chang. As the number of related articles about Daigyaku jiken in 1932 and the Yeo Un‒hyeong case symbolizes, PRKG quickly appeared in Japanese media especially with events related to the emperor’s authority. Japanese media did not continue to pay attention to the movements of PRKG itself. Many of the articles about PRKG were based on the speech of the authorities, and the cold-hearted attitude of the Japanese media against PRKG ultimately touched the authorities’ perceptions of PRKG. Japanese officials did not valued the political capacity of PRKG very much. As a result, authorities’ remarks on PRKG had been reduced, and the articles about PRKG had disappeared from Japanese media.

본고는 『朝日新聞』과 『讀賣新聞』을 중심으로 일본 언론에 비친 임시정부의 모습을 추적한 논고이다. 임시정부는 각종 불법행위와 테러를 자행하는 집단으로 일관되게 묘사되었다. 임시정부가 강우규의 폭탄 투척사건을 계기로 일본의 언론지상에 등장한 것은 이 점을 예기하는 것이었다. 임시정부 관련 기사는 1919~1921년에 집중적으로 등장하고 이후 급감했다. 한 가지 예외는 이봉창의 대역사건이 발생한 1932년이었다. 이봉창의 대역사건과 ‘여운형 사건’에 관한 관련 기사의 건수가 상징하듯이, 임시정부는 특히 천황의 권위와 연관된 사건이 다뤄지는 가운데 일본의 언론지상에 곧잘 모습을 드러냈다. 일본 언론은 임시정부 자체의 동향에 대해서는 지속적인 관심을 기울이지 않았다. 임시정부 관련 기사의 상당수는 ‘당국(자)’의 발언에 기초하고 있었던 바, 일본 언론의 냉담한 태도는 궁극적으로 임시정부에 대한 ‘당국(자)’의 인식과 맞닿아 있었다. 당국과 당국자들은 임시정부의 정치적 역량을 그리 높게 평가하지는 않았다. 그 결과 임시정부에 대한 ‘당국(자)’의 발언은 줄어들게 되었고, 이에 일본의 언론지상에서 임시정부 관련 기사는 자취를 감추게 되었다.
