This paper analyzes capacity of utensils of the Goryeo Dynasty through their figures recorded in Goryeo Dogyeong(󰡔고려도경, Illustrated Books of Goryeo). Firstly, Goryeo Dogyeong with much interest in Goryeo’s system of weights and measures, suggested that Song Dynasty(宋) and Goryeo had the same system. But this perception was not born from lack of knowledge about Goryeo’s system. Because these books have cognizance of size of land unit using in Goryeo such as Gyeol(結) that are different with Qīng(頃), land unit of Song Dynasty. Their system of weights and measures generally resembled each other in the form, nevertheless, Xu Jing(徐兢), a chinese writer of these books, missed detailed differences in each of units. Secondly, Goryeo Dogyeong places a great emphasis on Goryeo’s utensils as written in three volumes to better understand them. Their figures were shown even to the units like Chon(寸) and Jak(勺). Thirdly, the capacity of utensils on the records has some different from conversion figures, because all these conversion capacities were calculated only in cylindricality. The approximate capacity could be calculated by excluding the part that is not surface in capacity of cylindricality. Applying to the figures of utensils, it will be possible to restore the Goryeo’s utensils.

본고는 『고려도경』기명조의 기명수치에 대한 분석을 통해 고려 기명의 용적을 분석하기 위해 작성하였는데, 이를 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 『고려도경』은 고려의 도량형에 많은 관심을 가지고 파악하였고, 그러한 결과 송과 고려의 도량형이 동일하다고 생각하였다. 그러한 판단 속에는 송대의 토지 단위인 頃과 다른 結의 면적을 파악하고 있는 것처럼 고려의 도량형을 전혀 알지 못하고 그런 결정을 한 것이 아니었다. 그런데 고려와 송의 도량형은 형식은 같지만, 세세한 단위에 있어서는 차이가 있었는데, 이런 부분은 『고려도경󰡕을 찬술한 서긍이 간과한 것으로 생각된다. 둘째, 『고려도경』에 기록된 기명은 『고려도경』 중에서 권3으로 기록될 만큼 많은 비중을 차지하고 있고, 이는 고려의 기명을 자세하게 파악하기 위한 목적이었다. 기명의 수치는 寸과 勺 등의 단위까지 기록되고 있는 점을 고려하면 아주 자세하게 파악하였다. 셋째, 기명에 기록된 수치의 용량은 환산 수치와 다소 오차가 있다. 그런데 높이와 함께 徑과 闊 등의 용어가 기록되어 있는데, 徑으로 기록된 용적은 편차가 다소 일정하지만, 활은 용적의 편차가 조금 심하다. 기명의 용량 오차를 줄이기 위해 비슷한 기명을 통해 다양한 검토를 하고, 이를 토대로 기명의 수치에 적용하면 기명의 복원도 가능할 것이다.
