This study sought to analyze personal factors affecting criminal careers like recidivism among prisoners in correctional facilities. For this, the study divided diverse personal factors into three of sociodemographic characteristics and psychological factors and environmental factors. And then analysis was done by selecting moral disengagement as the typical psychological factor and abuse experience from parents and guardians as the typical environmental factor respectively. As a result, the study found firstly that abuse experience of prisoners from parents like emotional abuse during adolescence had a significant effect on their criminal career. Therefore, to curb their recidivism and further development of criminal career needs to expand family-oriented correctional programs within correctional facility to prevent their separation from family relationships. It also needs to develop psychotherapy programs that can help them solve their psychological aftermath following their abuse experience while growing. Secondly, two moral disengagements, 'attribution of blame' and 'transfer of responsibility' had a significant effect on the development of criminal career, and so to reduce the level of moral disengagement needs to expand personality education. And, there is a need to expand infrastructures such as the increase of professional manpower and securing educational facilities by more budget allocation. And also an incentive system should be actively applied for prisoners who yield remarkable change by either voluntary participation in or completing personality education. Since effective personality education might be hard to achieve only by the assistances from correctional authorities, measures should be worked out to build professionals and volunteer manpower pool in local communities and use diverse educational facilities there. Thirdly, in regard to sociodemographic characteristics, the older they are, the lower their academic career, the more they think their family is not well off, and the more likely their criminal career develops. This may tell us that social discrimination rising from branding for released prisoners causes their economic difficulties, hard social adaptation, continual frustration, eventually leading to their chronic criminal acts. In this regard, before being released from the prison, more vocational training needs to be provided and thereafter, continual support system like board and accommodation, vocational training, job arrangement should be expanded to protect them from social discrimination and their frustration.

이 연구에서는 교정시설에 수용된 수형자들을 대상으로 재범과 같은 그들의 범죄경력에 영향을 미치는 개인적 요인을 분석하고자 하였다. 이에 따라 다양한 개인적 차원의 요인을 인구사회학적 특성과 심리적 요인, 환경적 요인으로 구분한 후 심리적 특성은 도덕적 이탈, 환경적 요인은 부모 및 보호자로부터의 피학대 경험을 대표 요인으로 선정하여 분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 피학대 경험에 있어 청소년기의 정서적 학대와 같은 부모로부터의 학대경험이 범죄경력에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그러므로 이들의 재범과 범죄경력의 발전을 억제하기 위해서는 교정시설 내에서 가족과의 관계단절을 방지할 수 있는 가족 지향적 교정 프로그램의 확대와 더불어 성장과정에서 경험한 피학대 경험의 심리적 후유증을 해소할 수 있는 심리치료 프로그램의 개발이 필요할 것이다. 둘째, ‘비난의 귀인’과 ‘책임의 전가’ 라는 두 가지의 도덕적 이탈이 범죄경력의 발전에 유의미한 영향을 미치고 있으므로 도덕적 이탈 요인을 감소시키기 위해 인성교육의 확대가 필요할 것으로 판단된다. 따라서 관련 예산의 확대를 통한 전문인력 증원, 교육시설 확보 등 제반 인프라를 확충하고 인성교육에 자발적으로 참여하거나 인성교육 이수를 통해 괄목할만한 변화를 보인 수형자들에 대한 인센티브제를 적극 시행해야 할 것이다. 그리고 교정 당국의 자원만으로는 효과적인 인성교육의 실시가 어려울 수 있으므로 지역사회의 전문인력과 자원봉사 인력풀을 구성하고 지역사회 내의 다양한 교육시설을 활용할 수 있는 방안을 모색해야 할 것이다. 셋째, 인구사회학적 특성과 관련하여 나이가 많을수록, 최종학력이 낮을수록, 가정형편이 어렵다고 인식할수록 범죄경력이 발전할 가능성이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 출소자에 대한 낙인으로 인해 발생하는 사회적 차별이 그들에 대한 경제적 어려움과 사회 부적응, 그리고 지속적인 좌절을 야기하고 이것이 결국 만성적 범죄행위로 이어진다는 것으로 해석할 수 있다. 그러므로 출소 이전의 교정시설 내 직업훈련을 확대하고 출소 이후에는 그들이 경험하는 사회적 차별과 그로 인한 좌절을 억제하기 위해 숙식·주거·직업훈련·창업·취업 지원 등의 지속적인 지원체계가 확대되어야 할 것이다.
