초록

영어

Museong Seowon(武城書院) is the only seowon(school) in Jeollabuk-do that is listed as a World Heritage Site. The history of the Museong Seowon(武城書院) originates from the shrine of Choi Chi-won(崔致遠), the governor of Taesan county of the Unification Shilla period who is lauded for his wise governance. Museong Seowon’s history starts from Taesansa(泰山寺) during the Joseon Dynasty. Built in 1615, the Museong Seowon, unlike the general seowons, was governed by the local government for the purpose of encouraging academic studies and education from the beginning. In 1868, the Museong Seowon, one of the 47 seowons that was not destroyed by the Heongseon Daewongun’s order to abolish all seowons, was the place where the Gohyundong-Hyangyak(古縣洞鄕約) created by Jeong Geuk-in(丁克仁) was practiced. It is also a historical place where Byung-Oh Changyi(丙午倡義), the first righteous army movement in Honam(湖南), took place in the latter era of the Joseon Dynasty. The time of work and the author of the Museong Seowon “Educational regulations(院規)” is unknown at present. However, it is combining and summarizing Lee Yi’s The educational regulations of Eunbyeongjeongsa(隱屛精舍學規) and Kim Won-haeng’s The educational regulations of Suk-Sil Seowon(石室書院學規) into 17 sections so the date of the work is presumed to be the end of the 18th century. This study examines the establishment process and historical background of Korean seowons and examines the formation process and teaching activities of the Museong Seowon, the representative seowon of Jeollawoo-do of Joseon Dynasty. In particular, it will examine the teaching activities and characteristics of the Museong Seowon as the center of regional school(鄕學) by studying Educational regulations(院規) original texts of the Museong Seowon, which has not been studied so far. It will reexamine its historical characteristics and implications of Museong Seowon and review future conservation and use methods.
