The fact that Korean churches do not receive trust from society can be confirmed through various surveys. One of the reasons is that the church is disconnected from the community and is not serving the community properly. In order to overcome this reality, the Korean church needs to work harder to communicate with the community and help the community develop. Music is a useful and effective tool for serving the community. And because music has special strengths and many advantages, serving the community through music is a ministry worth trying in every church. The researcher found exemplary churches in various areas where the ministry of serving the community through music was well established, and classified the ministry of the churches into four types: 1) the type that provides opportunities for local residents to learn music, 2) the type that organizes an orchestra where local residents can participate and perform, 3) the type that invites or visits local residents and hold concerts, and 4) the type that holds a meeting where local residents can listen to music while watching performance videos with commentary. When serving the community through music, it should not be used as a means for evangelism or church revival, but should be genuine. They must work with a pure heart to meet the needs of local residents and to practice love for their neighbors. Even if there is no fruit of evangelism, the ministry must be continued. To do so, it is necessary to start after a thorough preparation process: after analyzing the circumstances of the church, the situation and needs of the community, the appropriate types of ministry should be determined.

한국교회가 사회로부터 신뢰를 받지 못한다는 사실은 여러 설문조사를 통해서도 확인할 수 있다. 그 이유 중의 하나는 교회가 지역사회와 단절돼 있고 지역사회를 제대로 섬기고 있지 않기 때문이다. 이러한 현실을 타개하기 위해서라도 한국교회는 지역사회와 소통하고 지역사회의 발전을 돕기 위 해 더욱 힘써야 한다. 음악은 지역사회를 섬기는 사역에도 유용하고 효과적 인 도구이다. 그리고 음악에는 특별한 힘과 장점이 있기 때문에, 음악을 통 해 지역사회를 섬기는 일은 모든 교회가 시도할 만한 가치가 있는 사역이다. 본 연구자는 음악을 통해 지역사회를 섬기는 사역이 잘 정착된 모범적 인 교회들을 여러 지역에서 찾아낸 후, 그 교회들의 사역을 네 가지 유형으 로 분류했다: 1) 지역주민들이 음악을 배울 수 있는 기회를 제공하는 유형, 2) 지역주민들이 참여할 수 있는 오케스트라를 조직해서 연주활동을 하는 유형, 3) 지역주민들을 초대하거나 찾아가서 음악회를 여는 유형, 그리고 4) 지역주민들이 해설과 함께 연주 영상을 보면서 음악을 감상할 수 있는 모임을 마련하는 유형. 음악을 통해 지역사회를 섬길 때 전도나 교회의 부흥을 위한 수단으로 삼지 말고 진정성 있게 해야 한다. 지역주민들의 필요를 채우고 이웃 사랑 을 실천하려는 순수한 마음으로 임해야 한다. 전도의 열매가 없더라도 그 사역을 꾸준히 지속해야 한다. 그러기 위해서는 철저한 준비 과정을 거친 후에 시작해야 한다. 교회의 형편과 지역사회의 상황 및 필요를 분석한 후 에 적합한 사역 유형을 결정해야 한다.
