Yuval Harari claims that humans with comparatively weak physical capabilities could conquer the world due to their ability to make and believe in narratives. Liberal democracy had been the narrative that claimed wide consensus and preserved order, dominating over all other myths and ideologies, but is now losing its influence as humanity faces unprecedented global challenges. Nationalism and populist political leaders are emerging, and there are no other alternatives in sight. This article presents the meta-narrative of the Missio Dei as the alternative narrative for humanity facing global dilemmas. This article refers to Harari to pose questions, to Paul Ricoeur for theological basis, and to Christopher Wright for descriptions of the alternative narrative.
