The novelist Soseki Natume, experienced apparent death and an out of body supernatural phenomenon at Shuzenji in 1910. He then moved to Tokyo from Shuzenji after the restoration of his health and strength. However for Soseki Natume, this journey seemed as if he were entering into the next world. He experienced death for 30 minutes and his spirit was carried away, leaving his body behind as if it were his coffin. He wrote about his apparent death experience, his out of body experience and his󰡐second funeral󰡑experience in his work The Memories and so on. He also wrote about this kind of spiritual experience in his other works Mon, Kokoro, and Meian. In particular, the hero of Meian saw his spirit as a ghost in the last sentence of that work. We can hypothesize that Soseki had a presentiment of his own death when writing this literature. In fact, Soseki died after writing this particular sentence in Meian. In Meian, he also wrote about a woman whom the hero had loved in the past and had vainly searched for. The hero of Meian wanted to know why she had left him. We can see that the memory of apparent death and disappointed love are repeated in this literature. It may mean Soseki searched for this woman after his revival in the last sentence of Meian, and in his heart he met her in this spiritual writing.
