This paper shows that the fertility of marriage immigrant women in South Korea is largely affected by characteristics of their source country. I use total fertility rate as a proxy, and exploit both between country variations and within country variations. The result suggests that a one standard deviation increase in the total fertility rate is associated with an increase in the 0.06～0.12 expected child, which is about 4～7% of their fertility expectation. Thus, different fertility rate across immigrant's country of origin is attributed to the preferences and beliefs on ideal number of children formed in their source country.

본 연구는 국내 결혼이민여성들의 출산력이 출신국가로부터 영향을 받는지 살펴보았다. 각 출신국가의 연도별 합계출산율을 자녀 수에 대한 선호를 반영하는 대리변수로 삼았으며, 합계출산율의 국가 간 차이와 함께, 같은 국가 출신이어도 이민연도에 따른 국가 내 출산율 차이를 분석에 이용하였다. 분석결과 이민연도의 출신국가 합계출산율이 1 표준편차 더 높았던 결혼이민여성은 약 0.06～0.12명 더 많은 자녀를 출산하고자 하고 이는 평균 기대 자녀 수의 4～7%에 해당한다. 이러한 분석 결과는 이민여성의 출산 행태를 이해하기 위해서 이들의 출신국가를 파악하는 것이 중요함을 의미하며, 국적에 따라 출산력이 다르게 나타나는 이유가 출신국가에서 형성된 자녀 수에 대한 선호에 기인하고 있음을 함의한다.
