The Influence of the Urban Regeneration for Active Tourism on Local Residents’ Residential Satisfaction and Community Attachment in Jeonju

Jeonju is a typical success case of urban regeneration as a tourist attraction. In some studies, an increase in the number of tourists visiting Jeonju is judged to be the scale of success case, and any conflict between local residents and tourists is analyzed. The purpose of this study is to find the benefits or a degree of satisfaction that Jeonju residents had in the process of urban regeneration. A questionnaire survey was conducted with adults aged 20 and older living in or near Jeonju Hanok Village. The survey had been conducted for about four months from April 1, to July 31, 2019. A total of 229 collected data were used as samples. Regression analysis was conducted with the use of such variables as urban regeneration, residential satisfaction, and community attachment. As a result, the urban regeneration of Jeonju that has already achieved active tourism influenced only residential satisfaction which affected community attachment. In addition, the opinions of the study subjects were additionally surveyed. As a result, the respondents hoped that Jeonju would become a Hanok village of sharing opinions with local residents and growing together with them and furthermore would a famous tourist attraction. In conclusion, it is judged that urban generation for active tourism positively influences local residents’ residential satisfaction and community attachment. Therefore, outcomes can be changed by local residents who have a sense of purpose of changing their village directly.
