One of the ways to revitalize a declining city is to promote urban tourism using cultural resources of the city. However, it has been pointed out that efforts for urban tourism have been largely limited to historical cultural resources without paying due attention to utilizing diverse cultural assets of cities. As a result, it has been criticized that many tourist cities are similar to each other without showing special characteristic of its own. With this background, this study aims to explore strategy to promote urban regeneration based on urban tourism with diverse and distinctive cultural assets of each city. For this purpose, factor analysis and cluster analysis were used to extract factors and to cluster cities following 6 types of urban tourism; exhibition/performance, marine environment, natural environment, education, food/beverage, and experience and health. Based on the result of analysis, several urban regeneration strategies were suggested. In particular, it was emphasized to develop urban regeneration policies that utilize unique cultural resources of cities rather than relying too much on existing historical cultural resources.

쇠퇴한 도시를 재활성화하기 위한 방안 중의 하나는 지역 내의 문화자원을 이용하여 도시관광을 증진시키는 것이다. 그러나 이러한 도시관광 증진방안은 도시 내의 다양한 문화자원을 활용하는 것이 아닌 역사 문화자원을 활용에 국한되어있다. 더욱이 비슷한 문화적 재생사업으로 인하여 지역적 정체성을 살리고 있지 못하는 실정이다. 이러한 배경에서 본 연구는 관광을 포함한 문화적 도시재생 전략을 탐색하는 것을 목표로 한다. 이를 위하여 요인분석 및 군집분석을 이용하여 6가지 유형(전시/공연, 해양환경, 자연환경, 교육, 식음료 및 체험형, 건강)으로 유형화 하였고, 이 결과를 토대로 도시재생 전략을 제안하였다. 특히, 역사문화자원 활용에 국한하는 것이 아니라 도시 내의 독특한 문화자원을 활용하는 도시재생 정책을 개발하는 것을 시사한다.
