The purpose of this study is to investigate the dance life history of Jeong Jae-man (鄭在晩, 1948-2014) based on the documents. This study was to lay the foundation for future studies in order to overcome the limitations of insufficient historical data on Jeong Jae-man's dance due to his sudden death and the lack of theoretical background for posthumous studies on his dance. The data used for this study was collected from research data, media articles, interviews and other materials, the research method was studied by classifying chronological order in the total form, which is the method of text analysis in the study of living history. As a result, the dance life history of Jeong Jae-man was divided into five categories: the first period ‘Growth’, the second period ‘Activity’, the third period ‘Career-Building' and the fourth period of ‘Handing down', and the fifth period of ‘Transmission'. The study is expected to provide useful academic data to his junior colleagues who preserve and transfer his dance and to serve as an evaluation reference in analyzing the historical flow of intangible culture. 본 연구의 목적은 문헌 자료들을 바탕으로 벽사 정재만(鄭在晩, 1948~2014)의 춤 생애사를 연구하는 데 있다. 본 연구는 갑작스러운 타계로 인해 정재만의 춤에 대한 사적(史的) 자료가 거의 전무한것과 사후 그에 대한 연구와 이론적 배경이 구축되어 있지 않는 한계를 극복하고자 연구의 기반을 마련하기 위해 시작하였다. 자료수집은 연구자료 및 언론기사, 인터뷰 등 문서에 기록된 자료들을 수집하였고 연구방법은 생애사 연구의 텍스트 분석 방법인 총체적 형태에서 본 연대기적 분류를 통해 연구하였다. 그 결과 정재만의 춤 생애사를 총 5기로 분류하고 제1기 ‘성장기(成長期)’, 제2기 ‘활동기(活動期)’, 제3기 ‘구축기(構築 期)’, 제4기 ‘전승기(傳承期)’, 제5기 ‘전수기(傳授期)’로 나누어 사적 흐름을 고찰하였다. 벽사 정재만의 춤 생애사 연구는 그의 춤을 보전, 계승하는 후학들에게 기반이 될 수 있는 자료를제공하고, 나아가 춤과 같은 무형문화의 사적 흐름을 분석하는 평가 준거가 될 수 있음을 시사한다.
