The purpose of this paper is to compare Dandyism in the 19th century with Pop Modern Dandy in the perspective of Platonic Eros. The characteristics of Dandyism in the 19th century are based on definitions by Barbey d'Aurevilly and Charles Baudelaire, and those of Pop Modern Dandy can be found in Faserland by a Swiss-born German-language writer Christian Kracht. Compared to in Britain and in France, the influence of Dandy and Dandyism in Germany was not great. Dandy in Germany, which existed but hard to find traces of it, is not much different from that in Britain and in France. For this reason, to compare German Dandy with contemporary Pop Modern Dandy, the definitions of those two writers aforementioned are still important. To make it clear that Dandy in German literature didn't come out of nowhere, first, this paper gives a general introduction of its researches. Then, interprets the characteristics of Dandyism in the 19th century and Pop Modern Dandy from the perspective of Eros in Symposium by Plato. Orthodox Dandy denies mediocrity and has a zeal for spiritual aristocracy, in other words, Eros. Dandies try to cultivate their own beauty and aim for inner superiority through it. On the other hand, Pop Modern Dandy which appears in the work by Christian Kracht, is lacking in Eros. The beauty it pursues is not a means to meet its inner aspiration, but no more than a symbol of material wealth. Dandyism in the past cultivated new idea of beauty while striving to reach their inner, spiritual ideal, whereas contemporary Pop Modern Dandy is lacking in Eros which leads to set and pursue such an ideal. It can be said that it is in the state of meaningless superficial form.
