The present study attempted to analyze cultural movement of people for the Zainichi magazine 『Mindo』 in fluenced by the Korean popular culture movement in the 1980s. In the 1980s, there was a historic collapse of the communist Eastern Europe. Similarly, the Korean community in Japan underwent identity crisis. During this time, the popular cultural movement developed actively in Korea. This cultural movement affected the society of the Zainichi people also. In this context, discussions on establishment and activation of popular culture developed in the Zainichi society. Because of this situation, a Zainichi magazine, called 『Mindo』was launched which was supposed to be the center of the people’s cultural movement. The functions of the magazine were manifold. Instead of only securing the unique identity of Zainichi society to overcome the Crisis of a Society, the magazine tried to acquire universality through popular culture and publishing world literary works.

본 논문에서는 재일조선인 잡지 『민도(民涛)』의 민중문화 운동의 실천양상을 1980년대 한국의 민중문화 운동의 영향관계 속에서 살펴보고자 했다. 1980년대는 동유럽 공산권의 붕괴라는 역사적인 흐름 속에서 재일조선인 사회 내적으로도 세대, 계층간의 갈등에 의한 위기가 초래되었던 시기였다. 또한 당시는 한국의 민중문화 운동이 활발히 전개되며 성과를 내던 시기였다. 이러한 민중문화 운동의 흐름은 재일조선인 사회에도 영향을 미쳐 재일조선인 민중문화 운동의 복권을 가속화했고, 당시 아이덴티티의 위기라는 시대적 현안 속에서 재일조선인 민중문화의 구축과 활성화에 대한 논의가 재일조선인 사회에서 전개되게 된다. 『민도』는 이러한 상황 속에서 재일조선인을 위한 자유로운 문예공간을 표방하면서, 재일조선인 민중문화운동의 구심점이 되고자 했던 잡지였다. 이렇듯, 『민도』는 재일조선이 민중문화 운동의 현실과 전망에 대해 다수의 좌담회와 특집기사 등을 토대로 지속적으로 논의를 전개하고 있는데, 이는 단순히 재일조선인의 독자적 아이덴티티를 확보하는 것을 넘어 민중문화를 구축하고 민중 차원의 보편성을 획득하는 것을 통해 조국과 일본 어디에도 매몰되지 않은 채 제 3세계 민중･문학과의 연대해 나갈 것이라는 세계문학적 가능성을 제시하는 차원에서 성립하고 있다.
