The purpose of this study is to review strategies and tasks for designating 『Muyedobotongji』 martial arts as state-designated cultural property. The conclusion is as follows. First, the value of martial arts history of 『Muyedobotongji』 is in systemically organizing and generalizing the martial arts of Korea, China and Japan in the new perspective of Joseon. While such martial arts as long spear, bamboo long spear, gichang, dangpa, nangseon, ssangsudo, yedo, waegeom, waegeomgyojeon, jedokgeom, bongukgeom, ssanggeom, woldo, hyeopdo, deungpae, gwonbeob, gonbang and pyeongon in 『Muyejebo』 , 『Muyejebobeonyeoksokjip』 and 『Muyeshinbo』 focus on infantry martial arts 18-gi, which are trained by infantry, 『Muyedobotongji』 includes not only infantry tactics but also horseback martial arts 6-gi of gichang, masang ssanggeom, masang woldo, masang pyeongon, gyeokgu and masangja, in addition to cavalry tactics. Second, the martial arts of 『Muyedobotongji』 were designated as municipal･provincial intangible cultural asset. The 24 martial arts in 『Muyedobotongji』 were designated as No. 51 Seoul Municipal Intangible Cultural Asset in February, 2019 under the name of . However, the city designated only the items without acknowledging holders or holding organization. The status of martial arts in 『Muyedobotongji』 can't be guaranteed due to the fact that they are the martial arts restored without academically ascertaining historical truths and that they are ununiformed techniques and revival by various organizations such as The Society for The Preservation of Sippalki, 24ban Martial Arts Gyeongdang Association and Korean Traditional Horseback Gyukgu Association. Therefore, it is urgent to draw up measures such as systemic research, support and management system of state-designated cultural property. Third, the strategies and tasks for 『Muyedobotongji』 to be designated as state-designated cultural property are as follows. ① It is necessary to research the values of designating 『Muyedobotongji』 as state-designated cultural property. ② There should be the integration of professional human resources training to overcome 『Muyedobotongji』 's limit of municipal･provincial intangible cultural asset. ③ There should be historical investigation on costumes and weapons of 『Muyedobotongji』 . ④ There should be practice standardization of techniques and movements of 『Muyedobotongji』 . ⑤ It is necessary to establish close cooperation with the government and academic world. ⑥ It is necessary to set a base for 『Muyedobotongji』 to be listed on Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

이 연구의 목적은 『무예도보통지』 무예의 국가무형문화재 지정을 위한 방안을 모색하는 것이다. 이에 대한 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 『무예도보통지』 의 무예사적 가치는 18세기 한국･중국･일본의 동양 삼국 무예를 조선의 새로운 안목으로 체계적으로 정리하고 종합한 것이다. 또한 기존의 『무예제보』 , 『무예제보번역속집』 , 『무예신보』 에 실려 있는 장창, 죽장창, 기창, 당파, 낭선, 쌍수도, 예도, 왜검, 왜검교전, 제독검, 본국검, 쌍검, 월도, 협도, 등패, 권법, 곤방, 편곤 등의 무예가 보병을 중심으로 훈련하는 보병무예 18기에 치중했다면, 『무예도보통지󰡕는 보병전술뿐만 아니라 기창, 마상쌍검, 마상월도, 마상편곤, 격구, 마상재 등 마상무예 6기를 더하여 기병전술까지도 포함하는 것이 특징이다. 둘째, 『무예도보통지』 무예가 시･도무형문화재에 지정되었다. 『무예도보통지』 에 실려 있는 24가지 무예는 2019년 2월 <전통군영무예>라는 명칭으로 서울특별시무형문화재 제51호로 지정이 되었다. 다만, 보유자나 보유단체를 인정하지 않고 종목만을 지정하였다. 학술적으로 고증되지 않은 채 복원된 무예라는 한계와 전통무예십팔기보존회, 24반무예경당협회, 한민족전통마상무예격구협회, 수원시립공연단소속 무예24기시범단 등 여러 단체의 통일되지 않은 기법과 재현은 『무예도보통지』 의 무예의 위상을 충분히 담보한다고 할 수 없다. 따라서 국가무형문화재의 체계적인 연구 및 지원책 그리고 관리체계 등의 방안 마련이 시급하다. 셋째, 『무예도보통지』 무예가 국가무형문화재로 지정되는 전략 및 과제는 다음과 같다. ① 『무예도보통지』 무예의 국가무형문화재 지정가치 조사가 필요하다. ② 『무예도보통지』 무예는 시･도무형문화재라는 한계 극복을 위한 전문 인력 양성 통합이 이루어져야 한다. ③ 『무예도보통지』 무예 복장 및 무기에 대한 고증이 이루어져야 한다. ④ 『무예도보통지』 무예 기법 및 동작에 대한 실기 표준화 작업이 필요하다. ⑤ 『무예도보통지』 무예 국가무형문화재 지정을 위해서는 정부와 학계의 긴밀한 협조체제를 이루어야 한다. ⑥ 『무예도보통지』 인류무형유산 등재를 위한 기반을 마련해야 한다.
