A comparative Study of Practical Arts of Education Curriculums in Korea and Germany - focusing on Clothing and Textiles -

This is a survey research aiming to compare German practical art education to Korean one, in particular clothing and textile division. After searching website of 16 German province or major cities, there are four provinces with separated clothing and textile courses from practical art courses, while other are not.
In spite of many differences among provinces, they have wider spectrum of curriculum than Korean one in that the former extends its course content over functional role even to symbolic role and aesthetic role. Also German curriculum covers toy's role and economic role of clothing and textile education. The result implies that German competitiveness in clothing and textile industry may be attributable to its strong emphasis in primary school curriculum.
