This article reviews the method of the database construction for Letter, manuals, and Manuals for Letters in the context of digital archiving for humanities materials. In the traditional era, people exchanged Letters about human affairs, from simple greetings to important issues. The terms in Letter were very different according to social relations and hierarchy. And the vocabulary and idiomatic phrases were not used well in ordinary texts. So, there was a need to create Manuals for Letters. Manuals for Letters is a kind of textbook that includes steps and examples of writing from envelopes to the letter. Because of this, it is very suitable for database construction. In addition, the study on Letter through the database construction will be conducted actively. Therefore, it is necessary to recognize the necessity of constructing Manuals for Letters as a database and the points to be aware when constructing the database. The most important thing in the process of the database construction is standardization work, that is following the fixed standard. Specifically, it is effective to consider technical standards, character codes, document standardization, metadata and image hypertext for database construction.

이 글에서는 인문학 자료들의 디지털아카이브 구축 사업이라는 측면에서 간찰 과 그 서식, 그리고 간찰서식집의 데이터베이스 구축 방안에 대해서 논의하고 있 다. 전통 시대에는 간단한 문안이나 안부 인사에서 중요한 사안에 이르기까지 거 의 모든 인간사에 대해서 간찰을 주고받았다. 간찰은 사회적 관계와 위계에 따라 서 쓰는 용어가 구별되어 있고 또 일반 글에는 잘 쓰이지 않는 어휘, 관용적 투식 등이 매우 까다로웠다. 그래서 간찰서식집이 필요했다. 간찰서식집은 간찰을 제대 로 쓰기 위해 피봉에서부터 내지에 이르기까지 작성하는 순서와 사례를 수록해 놓 은 일종의 간찰 쓰기 교본이었다. 간찰서식집은 데이터베이스로 구축하기에 적합한 자료라 할 수 있다. 게다가 데 이터베이스 구축을 통해서 간찰에 대한 연구는 한층 더 활발하게 진행될 수 있을것이다. 그러므로 간찰서식집을 데이터베이스로 구축해야 하는 필요성, 그리고 데 이터베이스로 구축하고자 할 때 유념해야 할 점들에 대한 인식이 요청된다. 간찰서식집 데이터베이스를 구축할 경우 DB 구축 대상의 범위, 시대별 비중을 어떻게 부여할 것인가, 또한 다양한 언어의 서식집을 어떤 기준에 따라서, 어떤 비 중으로 할 것인가 하는 점이 고려되어야 한다. 동시에 간찰을 판독하는 작업이 이 루어져야 하며, 입력 작업 역시 필요하다. 원본 이미지를 같이 볼 수 있도록 하는 것이 좋으며, 간찰용어, 일반용어 등이 담긴 부록까지 데이터베이스화되어야 한다. 데이터베이스 구축과정에서 유념해야 할 것은 표준화 작업이며, 표준화란 정해 진 표준에 따르는 것이라 할 수 있다. 구체적으로는 데이터베이스 구축을 위한 기 술적인 차원의 표준, 문자코드, 문서표준화, 메타데이터, 이미지 하이퍼텍스트 등 을 고려하는 것이 필요하다. 시간과 비용 절약 등 효율적인 작업 진행을 위해서도 그렇다.
