Measures are needed so that people with disabilities, including those with declining physical functions through aging, can participate in sightseeing activities without inconvenience. Approaches to developing an environment for Universal Tourism (UT), or tourism accessible to all people, have been examined and promoted from different perspectives. This study examined the conditions and travel needs from the perspective of users, especially the elderly, and analyzed factors obstructing travel by older adults. Current conditions and approaches to UT in Japan were reviewed, and previous studies on factors hindering UT and travel were identified. Notably, the conditions of older adults taking overnight or longer trips were examined, and factors hindering their travel behaviors were investigated. The results indicated the following factors hindering older adults’ travel behaviors, which were included in the five factors suggested by McGuire (1984): external, social, and physical. Four hypotheses were developed and tested based on these factors, which rejected Hypothesis 3 and accepted the other three hypotheses. The participants were also requested to express their opinions and desires regarding overnight trips using the free-response method, and factors they considered necessary for selecting travel commodities were clarified. The results of this study identified older adults’ travel needs. These results are expected to contribute to future discussions in the promotion of UT.

本研究では、日本におけるユニバーサルツーリズム（以下、UT）に関する現状や取 り組みについてまとめた上で、UTや旅行の阻害要因に関する先行研究のレビューを 行った。そのうえ、UTの対象者の中で、とりわけ高齢者に対象者を絞り、高齢の方々 の宿泊旅行の実態を把握するとともに旅行の阻害要因を明らかにすることを目的とし た。 高齢者の旅行阻害要因について分析した結果、外部的要因、社会的要因、身体的要 因の3つの要因が抽出され、これはMcGuire(1984)による５つの類型の一部に当てはま る事が明らかになった。本研究の結果抽出された３つの旅行阻害要因を用い、４つの 仮説を立て、検証を行った。４つの項目（性別、年齢、同居の形態、健康状態）と旅 行の阻害要因との関係を検証したが、同居の形態による旅行の阻害要因には差が見ら れなかった。また、宿泊観光旅行についての意見や希望について自由回答法で求めた ところ、旅行商品を選択する時に重要視する要因についての意見が寄せられた。この 結果から、今回の調査対象となっている高齢の方々の旅行に対するニーズが確認でき たと解釈できた。 高齢社会を迎えた日本において、加齢に伴う身体機能の低下を含めた障がいを持つ 人も不自由なく観光活動に参加できるように適切な措置を取ることが必要とされてお り、そのすべての人が楽しめるよう創られた旅行であるUTの環境づくりのための取り 組みが様々な立場により検討・促進されている。そこで、対象者（とりわけ高齢者） サイドから旅行に対するニーズや現状を把握し、さらに、高齢者にとっての旅行の阻 害要因について分析した今回の研究結果は、今後のUT推進にむけての方向性の議論 において貴重な参考資料として提供できると期待する。
