This dissertation is written in order to study on the seon master Gobong’s 『Seonyo』 and the problem of understanding 『Seonyo』. Seonyo is a representative seon textbook of Jogyejong(曹溪宗) which is based on the ideology of original Buddha. But there are still many misunderstanding Seonyo. Firstly, in the aspect of 『Seonyo』’s ideology of original Buddha, there are three kinds of method to express the ideology of original Buddha in 『Seonyo』: the descriptive expression method, the theatric expression method, the poetic expression method. The seon master Gobong expressed the ideology of original Buddha in 『Seonyo』 by using these three kinds of expressing method. Secondly, in the aspect of misunderstanding Seonyo, Anjinho(安震湖) and seon textbook of Jogyejong 『Seonyo』 made three kinds of mistakes in interpretation of Gobong’s 『Seonyo』 : truth and fault interpretation of the ideology of original Buddha, mystic interpretation of the ideology of original Buddha, misinterpretation of seon practicing process. Even though I studied the seon master Gobong’s 『Seonyo』 and the problems of understanding 『Seonyo』 in this research paper, there could be the other subjects to study. I will continue researching about his other works soon.

조계종에서 중시하는 『선요』의 본래성불 이념 이해를 바탕으로 안진호의 해설이나 조계종 편찬 교재 『선요』 주석에 보인 오류를 구명했다. 불교 경전의 핵심 사상이 본래 성불이며 이를 계승한 선서 역시 본래성불의 성격을 명쾌하게 보여 준다는 점을 전제했다. 이어 불경과 선서의 이념을 수용한 『선요』에서 중요한 말하기 방법을 통해 본래성불을 분명하게 표현하고 있음을 논증하였다. 고봉은 『선요』에서 일방적 말하기의 서술적 표현에서 약과 병, 눈동자 비유와 청산, 감탄구 ‘돌’ 등을 사용하고, 쌍방적 말하기의 극적 표현에서는 본래성불과 양변의 입장을 긴장감 있게 대화로 드러내고, 감성적 말하기의 시적 표현에서는 진흙 소, 달, 호랑이, 쇠 뱀, 금강의 눈, 곤륜산, 코끼리 백로, 금오 등 상징어와 비유어를 통해 역설적 동태를 읊는 등 세 가지 표현 방식으로 본래성불을 드러냈음을 확인하였다. 안진호 해설과 조계종 교재 『선요』 주석에서 보인 문제 중 진망적 해석, 신통적 해석의 두 경우는 선적 표현을 일반적 논리에 따라 본래성불의 살활을 진망이나 신통한 능력으로 잘못 해석한 경우가 있었고. 과정적 해석에서는 지견을 깨달음과 혼동하고, 불철저한 수행을 견성과 보임으로 해석하고, 화두삼매를 혼침과 산란으로 해석하고, 자유자재도 부정하고 향하구의 부질없음의 지적을 공부 득실로, 주객 분리 이전 근본 병을 주객이 분리 뒤의 병으로 해석하는 오류를 논증하였다.
