The purpose of this study is to discuss the meaning of the psychologization of subject matter from the dualism between the subject and the child and to discuss the role of the teacher in the psychologization of subject matter through Dewey 's viewpoint. Dewey says that the curriculum has dual aspects. Giving such a lesson to a child is like swallowing food that is difficult to digest. Therefore, in order for the subject to be a food that can be eaten by a child, it becomes necessary to revert to the original experience of the subject. This is not a fixed way to replace logic with psychology. It may be psychological or logical if the child is experiencing it now. Thus, psychologization of subject matter means reverting to what the child can now experience. The psychologization of subject matter tells that it is not the role of the teacher to convey the contents of the curriculum delivered from the past as it is or to allow the child to inherit what is inherent in it. Teachers should psychologize the curriculum delivered from the past and play an active role in ensuring that the child experiences and interacts continuously.

본 연구는 교과와 아동 간의 이원론에서 벗어나 교과의 심리화의 의미를 Dewey의 관점에 서 고찰하고 이를 통해 교과의 심리화가 말하는 교사의 역할을 논의하는데 목적이 있다. Dewey는 교과는 이중적인 측면을 지니고 있다고 말한다. 이러한 교과를 아동에게 그대로 부여하는 것은 소화시키기 힘든 음식을 삼키게 하는 것과 마찬가지이다. 따라서 교과가 아동 에게 먹을 수 있는 음식이 되기 위해서는 교과가 가진 원래의 경험으로 되돌릴 필요가 생겨 난다. 이는 논리를 심리로 대체하는 것처럼 고정된 방법을 말하는 것이 아니다. 아동이 현재 경험할 수 있는 것이라면 심리이거나 논리일 수도 있다. 따라서 교과를 심리화하는 것은 아 동이 현재 경험할 수 있는 것으로 되돌리는 것을 의미한다. 과거로부터 전해 내려온 교과의 내용을 그대로 전달하거나 아동에게 내재된 것을 자연적으 로 발산할 수 있도록 방임하는 것은 교사의 역할이 아니라는 것을 교과의 심리화는 말해준 다. 교사는 과거로부터 전해 내려온 교과를 심리화하여 아동의 경험과 상호작용이 계속적으 로 이루어지도록 적극적인 역할을 해야한다.
