The association between bicultural attitude and learning attitude among multicultural adolescents - Focusing on the mediated moderation effect of friend support through ego resilience -

This study aims to examine whether the mediation association between bicultural attitude, ego resilience, and learning attitude among multicultural adolescents was moderated by friend support. For the purpose, utilizing the PROCESS macro for SPSS, a mediated moderation effect was analyzed on a sample of 1,281 multicultural adolescents with a foreign-born mother who were selected from the raw data of the Multicultural Adolescents Panel Study (MAPS). The main findings are as follows. First, bicultural attitude was positively associated with learning attitude among multicultural adolescents. Second, multicultural adolescents’ ego resilience partially mediated the association between bicultural attitude and learning attitude. Third, multicultural adolescents’ friend support moderated the association between bicultural attitude and learning attitude and the association between bicultural attitude and ego resilience. Fourth, multicultural adolescents’ friend support had a mediated moderation effect on the mediation association between bicultural attitude, ego resilience, and learning attitude. Based on the findings, practice and policy implications for promoting learning attitude among multicultural adolescents were discussed.
