Sexual expressions in postwar Japanese women's poetry have manifested themselves in a multitude of various perspectives. These include the sexuality of the biological point of view as well as the sexuality and gender of physical attractiveness. This is especially shown in the case of sex represented by birth. The first-generation poets revealed passive perceptions that regarded this as the fate of women. The second-generation poets on the other hand, take an enterprising attitude against this, which they regard as a conventional object that needs to be overcome. While the first󰠏generation poets revealed their attitude toward a limited life for women due to biological handicaps. The second󰠏generation poets recognized their fate but had the will to ultimately overcome it. Extraordinary sexual vocabulary appeared in the works of the second generation poets, these include word like: spermatozoon, ovum, uterus, penis and other detailed sexual terminology. However, in previous poems these types of words were never directly addressed. This straightforward, free-spoken expression reached its pinnacle from Siraishi Kazuko through Sinkawa Kazue. They strongly denied the existing narrative structure that had created taboos for explicit sexual expression, while taking the mystery of life as their ultimate goal.

일본 전후 여성시 속의 성 표현은 생물학적 성을 비롯해, 성적 매력의 섹슈얼리티, 사회적 성차인 젠더 등 여성성을 에워싼 다양한 시각으로 나타나고 있다. 특히 공통 관심사인 생물 학적 성의 경우, 1세대의 시인들이 이를 여성에게 부과된 숙명으로 여기는 수동적 인식과는 달리, 2세대 시인들은 타파해야 할 인습적 대상으로 간주하는 진취적 자세가 두드러진다. 구 체적으로 1세대 시인들이 출산으로 대표되는 여성으로서의 제한된 삶의 방식을 체념적 시선 으로 수긍하고 있는 데 비해, 2세대 시인들은 동일한 ‘낳는 성’으로서의 자각 속에서도 그것 을 극복하려는 태도를 취하고 있다. 2세대 시인들의 작품에서는 정자, 난자, 자궁, 남근 등 이 전의 시에서는 직접적으로 다루지 못했던 파격적인 성적 어휘 구사가 두드러지며, 이러한 자 유분방한 시 세계의 구축은 신카와 가즈에를 거쳐 시라이시 가즈코에 이르러 그 정점을 이루 고 있다. 그들의 궁극적 시적 지향점인 생명의 신비를 바탕으로, 성의 직접적 표현이 더 이상 여성에게 터부시될 수 없는 주제임을 나타내고 있다.
