The purpose of this study is to identify the comparative differences in the patterns of consumption of single-person income households in both Korea and Japan. The analysis of the results led to the following conclusions. Firstly, there were no significant differences between the two countries on the expenditure on food and non-alcoholic beverages. However, the expenditure on such things as housing, water, electricity, culture, and recreation was found to be higher for Japan. In terms of all the other expenses, Korean single-person households were found to have a higher spending rate. Secondly, regarding the differences in consumption patterns, it was found that consumption related to social participation, leisure activity, and fashion is relatively higher in Korea. The following implications can be derived from these results: It appears that businesses should build a marketing strategy that fits the rapidly growing consumption patterns of single-wage-earning person households. Moreover, governments should reflect the needs of single- person income households in their policy-making decisions.

본 논문이 목적은 한･일 1인 근로자 가구의 소비패턴의 차이점을 규명하는 것이다. 분석 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 소비지출 구성항목별 차이를 보면, 식료품･ 비주류음료 항목은 한･일간에 유의적인 차이가 나타나지 않았으며, 주거･수도･광열, 교양･오 락, 기타 소비지출 항목이 소비지출에서 차지하는 비중은 일본이 한국보다 큰 것으로 나타났 다. 또한 다른 항목은 모두 한국이 일본보다 더 큰 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 소비패턴의 차이 에 있어서는 사회적 참여 소비, 다양한 활동 지향형 소비, 유행 추구형 소비 모두 한국의 1인 근로자가구가 상대적으로 더 적극적인 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결론을 바탕으로 얻을 수 있 는 시사점을 기업과 정부의 정책 차원에서 정리하면 다음과 같다. 먼저 기업은 빠르게 증가 하고 있는 1인가구의 소비성향에 맞는 마케팅전략을 구축해야 할 것으로 보이며, 정부는 사 회활동에 적극적인 1인 근로자가구의 성향을 반영하여 이들을 지원할 수 있는 시설 확보 등 의 정책적 고려가 이루어져야 할 것이다.
