Korean society has become an aged society due to low fertility and an increase in life expectancy. This leads to prolonged old age and is directly connected with an increase in the number of elderly single-person households. This is because parents and children often do not live together due to changing perception about family support. There is a case where solitary death occurs while living as an elderly single-person household if the family relationship and social network are weak. Actual statistics also showed that the number of 'the dead without family or friends' increased. In response, the government and municipalities have prepared related legislation for prevention of solitary death and as a public response, they have sought solutions by 'caring' and 'forming a social network' and some have begun to be implemented. However, there is a limit that the public response has to focus on high-risk groups. Therefore, the church should newly recognize the role for prevention of solitary death. In addition, the church should always read the changes of generations and ages and carry out the ministry according to it. Therefore, based on the understanding of the changes in Korean society and the current social phenomenon, the church's role as a member of the community was discussed as a 'messenger of love' church and a local 'loving place' church centered on the practice of ‘love’, which is the identity and existence of the church.

한국 사회는 저출산과 평균수명의 증가로 고령사회가 되었다. 이는 노년의 장기화로 이어지고 고령 1인 가구의 증가와 직결된다. 왜냐하면 가족 부양에 대한 인식이 변화하여 부모와 자녀가 동거하지 않는 경우가 많기 때문이다. 고령 1인 가구로 지내면서 가족과의 유대관계와 사회적 관계망이 약한 경우에 고독사가 발생하는 사례가 있다. 실제 통계로도 ‘무연고 사망자’ 수가 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 이에 정부 및 지자체에서 고독사 예방을 위한 관련 법안을 마련하고 공적 대응으로, ‘돌봄’과 ‘사회적 관계망 형성’으로 해법을 찾고 일부 실행되기 시작했다. 그러나 공적 대응은 고위험군에 집중할 수밖에 없는 한계가 있다. 그러므로 교회는 고독사 예방을 위한 역할을 새롭게 인식해야 한다. 또한 교회는 언제나 세대와 시대의 변화를 읽고 그에 따른 사역을 실행하는 것이 마땅하다. 그러므로 이러한 한국 사회의 변화와 작금의 사회 현상 이해를 바탕으로 지역사회의 구성원으로 존재하는 교회의 역할을 교회의 정체성이자 존재 이유인, ‘사랑’의 실천을 중심으로 ‘사랑의 메신저’ 교회와 지역 ‘사랑방’ 교회로 논하였다.
