The shaping of the two main characters, i.e. “White Snake” and “Green Snake”, and the transformation of conflicts, in particular, have depicted the sorrows and joys, as well as love and hatred in the world. From the female-centered perspective and based on the storyline, this thesis studies the continuation and evolution of “White Snake” and “Green Snake”, and through the explorative analysis of not only the exact written record, such as the legend of Tang Dynasty Li Huang, the Song-Yuan script Three Pagodas of West Lake, the Ming Dynasty The White Snake Kept In Leifeng Tower Forever, the Qing Dynasty Leifeng Tower, Peking Opera text The Legend of White Snake, Modern literary novel The Green Snake, but also the classic visual works of Peking Opera and dance drama The Legend of White Snake, movie and drama Green Snake, this thesis sorts out and expounds the evolution of the characters of “White Snake” and “Green Snake” so as to explore the continuity and variability of the character development. As a cultural prototype, The Legend of the White Snake “has a strong vitality, and it is not yet finalized. It is still waiting for creative revolutionaries. By revolutionizing and decoding the legend, the thesis aims to inject new vitality into the traditional prototype.” Reconstructing and adapting the legend in the future should focus on the modern social consciousness with the characteristics of the times and the spirit of reflection. It will also give new meaning to the script and promote the inheritance and development of classic stories and characters.

‘백사전’의 이야기와 캐릭터는 시대의 변천 및 문화 발전의 큰 흐름 속에서 서로 다른 심미적 가치를 지닌 창작자에 의해 새롭게 각색되었다. 특히 ‘백사' 와 ‘청사' 두 주요 인물의 캐릭터 묘사와 갈등의 충돌 역시 당시 사회적 배경 아래 사람들의 희비와 애증을 표현하고 있다. 본 논문은 여성중심시각으로, 문헌자료로부터 ‘백사와 청사’캐릭터의 연속성과 변천과정을 연구 한다. 당 전기 ‘이황’, 송원화본 ‘서호삼탑기’, 명나라 ‘백랑자 영진 뇌봉탑’, 청나라 ‘뇌봉탑’, 경극문본 ‘백사전’, 현대문학소설 ‘청사’ 등 명확한 문헌기록 자료를 비롯해, 경극 ‘백사전’, 무용극 ‘백사전’, 영화 ‘청사’, 연극 ‘청사’등 시각화된 작품의 분석을 통해, ‘백사’와 ‘청사’의 연기변화와 캐릭터 발전의 연속성과 변이성을 탐구한다. 연구와 분석의 과정 및 결론을 통해 시대의 변천과 문명의 발전에 따라, 여성의 의식과 사회적 지위에도 커다란 변화가 일어나고 있음을 알 수 있다. 여성의 사상, 사유, 행위, 개성, 그리고 언어의 변화는 여성의 의식의 각성과 해방이며, 이 변화의 발전 과정은 ‘백사전’의 시대별 여러 예술 형식의 작품에서도 잘 드러난다. 문화원형으로서 ‘왕성한 생명력’을 지닌 ‘백사전’은 여전히 정형화되지 않았으며, ‘백사전’을 재해석하고 해체해 전통 원형에 새로운 활력을 불어넣을 수 있는 창작자를 기다린다고 할 수 있다. 미래 ‘백사전’의 재구성과 각색은 현대 사회의 의식을 중심으로, 시대적 특색과 반성의 정신을 가지고, 각기 다른 각색자가 서로 다른 사고의 시각에서 해석해야한다. ‘백사전’의 다원화, 사회생활에 더 밀착된 스토리텔링 개발, 스토리 구조 충돌 및 캐릭터를 부각시키고, 작품에 새로운 의미를 부여해, 전통소재와 캐릭터의 전승과 발전을 촉진해야 할 것이다.
