The ‘KBS Classic Academy For the Citizen’ hosted by KBS Busan is a large-scale humanities course with about 300 ordinary citizens. Starting in 2005 and lasting 13 years, the ‘KBS Classic Academy For the Citizen’ is a very rare case in which local universities and media cooperated to hold a humanities course for citizens. The success of the course, which can be judged to have served as a stepping stone for the humanistic education for the citizen in Busan, is due to the credibility of the host and the publicity medium on the basis of local people’s desire for humanities. This paper focused on the ‘KBS Classic Academy For the Citizen’ and explored the direction of the course. The purpose of the humanities course for citizens is to allow one to be more autonomous through reflection on his/her life. The achievements of humanities courses for citizens range from small happiness in daily life to a new perspective on the world, an opportunity to reconstruct the meaning of life on its own. These days, however, to study humanities has become a social trend, and there are many voices of humanities being specialized in ‘healing’, and being influenced by commerciality, so we have no choice but to ask the fundamental question: “Can humanities change our lives?” And we also ask about the methodology of humanities movements nowadays : “Do we need the humanities course for citizens of reading, writing and discussing, instead of the enlightened way of lecturing?” In conclusion, citizen humanities courses need to vary according to each generation/class/region/media. Diversity in humanities courses, from large-scale of lecturing classes to small-scale of debating classes, should be accepted.

KBS부산이 개최하고 있는 ‘KBS고전아카데미 시민강좌’는 약 300여 명의 일반 시민들이 참여하는 대규모 인문학 강좌이다. 2005년에 시작되어 13년간 지속된 KBS고전아카데미 시민강좌는 지역의 대학과 언론기관이 협력하여 시민들을 위한 인문학 강좌를 개최한, 매우 드문 사례이다. 부산지역 인문학 운동의 마중물 역할 을 했다고 평가할 수 있는 이 강좌의 성공은 인문학에 대한 지역민의 열망을 바탕 으로 하여 주최기관에 대한 신뢰와 방송 매체가 가진 홍보의 힘 때문이다. 이 글은 KBS고전아카데미 시민강좌의 사례를 중심으로 시민인문학 강좌의 방향을 모색해 보았다. 시민인문학 운동의 목적은 자신의 삶에 대한 성찰을 통해 주체적 인간으로 살 아갈 수 있게 하는 것이다. 현장에서 느끼는 시민인문학 운동의 성과는 일상에서 느끼는 작은 행복에서부터, 세상을 새롭게 바라보고, 스스로 삶의 의미를 재구성하 는 계기를 마련하는 등 다양하다. 그러나 인문학이 시대의 트렌드가 된 요즘 인문 학이 ‘힐링’으로 특화되고, ‘도구나 장식’이 되어 상업성에 물들었다는 자성의 목소 리가 높다. 여기서 우리는 ‘인문학이 우리의 삶을 바꿀 수 있는가?’라는 근본적인 질문을 던질 수밖에 없다. 그리고 ‘강연 형식의 계몽적 방식’보다는 ‘책을 읽고, 글 을 쓰고, 토론을 할 수 있는 실질적인 시민주체의 인문학이 필요한가?’라는 인문학 운동의 방법론에 대한 또 하나의 질문을 던진다. 결론적으로 시민 인문학 강좌는 그 방식이나 세대/계층/지역/매체별로 다양한 형태로서 공존해야 하고, 또 다원화된 강좌의 층위가 필요하다. 강의식 대규모 인문학 강좌와 소규모 토론식 공부모임이 공존하는, 인문학 강좌의 다양성이 인정되어야 한다.
