Along with Ki-young Hyun, Seong-chan Oh, Gil-eon Hyun, Seok-bum Kim, a Korean-Japanese author who never hesitated to write about 4⋅3, cannot be ignored when it comes to 4⋅3 literature. As the most basic and the very first work, The Death of Crow plays a very important role in Seok-bum Kim’s literature. Through a series of novels such as The Guard Mr. Park, The Death of Crow, Gwandeokjeong Pavilion, Poop and Freedom, and Fake Dream Talk, Seok-bum Kim described the 4⋅3 Incident and the tragic life of a generation who had to live in the Japanese colonial era. In the article, we investigated what was life like and what role each character played in the work through the fragments the novel The Death of Crow, and we also examined the hidden images which author Seok-bum Kim hid in the various characters in the work. It is worth noting that in the work The Guard Mr. Park, The Death of Crow, and Gwandeokjeong Pavilion, the author might have exposed the same topics, but he developed the story by varying the behavioral patterns of characters. Seok-bum Kim expressed his will to recognize the reality through the characters in the work just to convey the truth rather than to complain. Work Poop and Freedom, and Fake Dream Talk not only created characters that lived in sensitive ages to make voice heard, but aroused the consciousness and expressions by describing the historical truth and stating the situations of the times, which further extended the distinct literal signification of Korean-Japanese author Seok-bum Kim.

4∙3에 대한 글쓰기를 주저하지 않는 재일조선인 작가 김석범은 현기영, 오 성찬, 현길언 등과 함께 4∙3문학을 살피는 데 있어서 뺄 수 없는 작가라 할 수 있으며, 『까마귀의 죽음』은 김석범 문학을 논할 때 가장 기초적이고 시발적인 작품이라 할 수 있을 정도로 중요한 위치를 차지한다. 김석범은 소설 ｢간수 박서방｣, ｢까마귀의 죽음｣, ｢관덕정｣, ｢똥과 자유｣, ｢허몽담(虛夢譚)｣을 통해 4∙3이라는 사건과 일제강점기의 힘든 시절을 살아야했 던 세대들의 비극적 삶을 그려내고 있으며, 인물들의 현실 인식을 통해 그들이 어떻게 현실에 대응해 나가는가를 보여준다. 이 글에서는 소설 『까마귀의 죽음』의 단편들을 통해 인간의 삶이 어떻게 구 현되고 있으며, 각 인물들이 작품 속에서 어떤 역할을 수행해 내는지를 찾아보 고, ‘작중 인물’들의 다양성 속에 감춰진 작가 김석범만의 인물상을 알아보았다. ｢간수 박서방｣, ｢까마귀의 죽음｣, ｢관덕정｣에서 작가는 동일한 주제를 드러 냄에 있어서도 그가 포착하고 있는 인물들의 행동양식의 다양성을 통해 이야기 를 전개시키고 있음을 알 수 있다. 이것은 ‘작중 인물’들을 통해서 현실고발이 아닌 사건의 진실을 전달하고자한 김석범의 현실 인식의 의지 표명으로 볼 수 있다. 또한 ｢똥과 자유｣, ｢허몽담(虛夢譚)｣에서는 민감한 시대를 살아가는 인물 들을 창조하여 자신의 목소리를 내었음에도 불구하고 역사적 진실에 대한 묘사 나 시대상황에 대한 담담한 진술을 통해 창출되는 의식과 표현은 재일조선인 작가 김석범만의 고유한 문학적 의미를 더욱 확장시킴을 확인할 수 있다.
