The purpose of this paper is to survey and analyze the problems and alternatives of English grammar education in Korea. Because there are many problems in teaching of English grammar, alternatives are to be needed clearly. There are alternatives on problems in teaching English grammar and they are to be suggested like this. Firstly, practical English grammar is to be taught in school. People have to study practical English grammar than traditional English grammar. Secondly, people should understand conversation-centered education and grammar-centered education clearly and harmonize them each other appropriately. Thirdly, English grammar is not to be studied for gaining good grades. English grammar for tests and entrance exam of university is not good method in learning English. Learning English grammar is to be studied like a kind of playing and speaking in a daily life. Lastly, English grammar is different from mathematical formulas distinctly. However, many people understand and study English grammar like mathematical formulas. It is very boring to learners of studying English grammar. In conclusions, there are many problems in teaching and learning of English grammar in Korea. As soon as possible teachers of teaching English have to understand them and change the methods of teaching English grammar. Teaching English grammar is to be applied in a daily life appropriately. Nowadays, Living and speaking English grammar is to be needed in Korean English education.

영문법이라 하면 먼저 머리가 아프다는 말을 하는 사람들을 많이 보 게 된다. 그렇다 영문법은 따분할 수도 있는 부분이기는 하다. 그러나 모든 언어에는 나름대로 체계와 규칙이 있게 마련이다. 그렇다면 어떤 언어라도 그 언어가 가지고 있는 문법이라고 하는 것이 따분하고 어려 운 것인가 하는 의문을 갖게 된다. 집을 지을 때 기초가 단단하게 뒷받침해야 하는 것처럼 언어를 습득 할 때 단단한 기초이면서 기둥 역할을 하는 것이 문법이라 하겠다. 요 즘 많은 학교 현장에서 뿐만 아니라 학부모들 사이에서도 문법보다 회 화를 강조하고 이를 우선시해야 하고 또한 영어 교육의 목표가 마치 회 화 공부인 것처럼 말하는 사람들이 많다. 그러나 원어민인 경우는 처음 부터 그 언어에 노출되어 있어서 큰 문제가 되지 않지만 비원어민인 경 우에는 그 언어를 습득함에 있어서 규칙과 체계를 터득한다면 보다 고 급 수준의 언어를 구사할 수 있을 것이라 생각한다. 본 논문에서는 우리나라 영문법 교육의 문제점과 그에 대응하는 여 러 방안을 모색해서 회화교육도 중요하지만 문법교육의 중요성을 부각 시키고자 한다. 또한 문법교육을 통해서 보다 수준 높은 영어 실력과 회화 능력을 확보하는데 도움이 되도록 여러 예문을 통해서 이를 확고 히 하고자 한다. 오늘날은 인터넷의 발달로 회화도 중요하지만, 이 보 다 수없이 쏟아지고 있는 정보를 읽고 이를 이해하고 해석하는 능력을 기르는 것이 중요하다고 확신한다.
