This study aims to make an analysis of the strategy and significance of storytelling observed in biographies of great people by analyzing narrative structure and figuring out characteristics of narrative structure of biographies of great people oriented to children. As for the research methods, this study arranged theories of previous studies structured based on the analysis of a number of stories of heroes, and made a comparative analysis of how such theories are applied in the real biography of "WHO? Jeon Bongjun of the Joseon Dynasty Period in the Korean History." The research content can be summarized as follows: Firstly, this study made a comparative review of diagrams between the theory of "Hero's journey" of Christopher Vogler and theory of "Hero's life" of Cho Tong-il. Secondly, this study analyzed how "WHO? Jeon Bongjun of the Joseon Dynasty Period in the Korean History" applies theories of Vogler and Cho Tong-il and inquired into the relevant meaning. Based on the research results, it was possible to understand that "WHO? Jeon Bongjun of the Joseon Dynasty Period in the Korean History" is considerably applying theories of Vogler and Cho Tong-il as a storytelling technique. It is estimated that the elements of structure of hero's adventure and life, which are not applied, are observed due to the features reflecting life of a real person, and some elements transformed in the narrative as succession of a legendary element.

이 연구의 목적은 아동 대상 위인전의 서사 구조를 분석하고 서사 구조에서드러난 특성을 파악하여 위인전에 나타난 스토리텔링 전략과 그 의미가 무엇인지를 분석하는 것에 있다. 이에 대한 연구 방법으로 다수의 영웅 이야기를분석하여 구조화한 선행 연구의 이론들을 정리하였고, 이러한 이론들이 실제위인전인『 WHO? 한국사 조선시대 전봉준』에서 어떻게 적용되고 있는지를비교, 분석하였다. 이 연구의 내용을 요약하면 다음 세 가지로 분류된다. 첫째, 크리스토퍼 보글러의 ‘영웅의 여행’ 이론과 조동일의 ‘영웅의 일생’ 이론의 도식을 비교, 검토하였다. 둘째,『 WHO? 한국사 조선시대 전봉준』의 서사 구조를 체계화하였다. 셋째,『 WHO? 한국사 조선시대 전봉준』이 보글러의 이론과 조동일의이론을 어떻게 적용하고 있는지를 분석하고 그 의미가 무엇인지를 아울러 살펴보았다. 이 연구의 결과로『 WHO? 한국사 조선시대 전봉준』에서 보글러의 이론과조동일의 이론을 스토리텔링 기법으로 다수 활용하고 있다는 것을 파악할 수있었다. 활용되지 않은 영웅의 여행/일생 구조의 요소는 실존 인물의 생애를반영하고 있다는 특성 때문인 것으로 파악되며, 이러한 일부 요소는 전설 요소의 계승으로 서사에서 변용되었다.
