The purpose of this study is to develop and validate social adjustment scale to measure social adjustment level of released convicts. Social adjustment of released convicts needs to be measured in multi-dimensions including personal factors and social and environmental factors in consideration of their special circumstances. Through in-depth interviews with the subjects and prior studies, we try to configure the factors affecting the social adjustment of released convicts which are anger response, resilience, family relationship, self-stigma, social support, and self-esteem in order to construct the social adjustment scale. To construct the scale, 84 preliminary primary items are selected based on the validated scales in the previous study. The results of exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis show that the final social adjustment scale consists of 54 sub-factors(negative anger response, positive anger response, control, positivity, sociality, dependency, faith, predictability, inherent stigma, related stigma, social support, and self-esteem) and 6 high-factors(anger response, resilience, family support, stigma perception, social support, and self-esteem). Construct validity, convergent validity, discriminant validity, and criterion validity are verified for the scale’s validation. Finally, this study gives the practical suggestions by utilizing the scale and the proposal for follow-up studies and limitation.

본 연구는 출소자의 사회적응 수준을 측정하기 위해서 사회적응척도를 개발하는 것 을 목적으로 수행되었다. 출소자의 사회적응은 이들의 특수한 상황을 고려하여 개인적 요인과 사회·환경적 요인을 포함하여 다면적으로 측정될 필요가 있다. 이에, 출소자와 의 심층인터뷰와 선행연구를 통하여 출소자의 사회적응에 미치는 요인을 분노대응, 회 복탄력성, 가족관계, 낙인인식, 사회적 지지, 자존감으로 구성하고, 이를 측정하는 도구 를 타당화하고자 하였다. 문항들을 구성하기 위해 선행연구에서 타당화가 입증된 척도 를 바탕으로 84개의 예비 1차 문항을 선정하여 자료를 수집하였다. 탐색적 요인분석과 확인적 요인분석을 실시하여 최종 사회적응척도는 54문항 12개의 하위요인(부정적 분 노대응, 긍정적 분노대응, 통제성, 긍정성, 사회성, 의존성, 믿음, 예측성, 내재낙인, 관계 낙인, 사회적 지지, 자존감)과 6개의 중범주(분노대응, 회복탄력성, 가족관계, 낙인인식, 사회적 지지, 자존감)로 구성하였다. 사회적응척도의 타당화를 검증하기 위해 구성타당 도, 수렴타당도, 변별타당도, 공인타당도를 확인하였다. 마지막으로, 본 척도의 정책적· 실천적 제언과 후속연구 및 한계점을 제시하였다.
